Default Do you ever see or hear anything positive going on in the world?

I watch a lot of news and view a lot on the internet. Seems like it is a very rare occurrence now when I see or hear anything that is positive and uplifting. The whole world seems to be going to shit. We (U.S) seems to be at the forefront of this list also. I get depressed over it often not for myself but for my kids who are going to have to struggle as they go through life in this environment.

Do you guys kind of feel the same way or am I just missing something here that seems to be improving? Maybe I should just stop watching the news on a daily basis and just forget about all the problems in the world and our country. It is funny but I feel as if this whole world implosion that seems to be coming at some point is causing me a lot of stress worrying about my kids future. Maybe it is because I just turned 50 and know that time is catching up with me and I won't be around at some point when they really need me. Just up late thinking about shit here again....

No Lavey, you are not alone.... I can identify with everything in your post. The toughest part is worrying about my children and grand children's future..... These concerns amplify my anger and anxieties not only towards our POTUS, but to our entire corrupt governmental body as well. At times, I feel like I am a passenger riding on an out of control bus headed toward a very dangerous and stormy horizon and there is no one charting out a better course.

In regards to the News, I have backed way off from TV's so-called journalism. As Fox News was once a good news source in the past, currently all they want to do is pound in our heads what a POS Obama is and spend the remainder of their time arguing with each other just how bad he is........Over time, I find this very depressing...... I miss the days of honest and aggressive journalism. What happened to the Evening News?

Then there is the "Great Divide" by our current Administration whose agenda is clearly to drive wedges between the classes and races for political gains. The hatred displayed by the average citizen against his fellow man is gaining momentum and sucking the fun out the life's simple joys. The tension on the streets between classes and races is more than obvious and growing daily. What ever happened to "please and thank you"?

Yep Lavey, today's socity can depress the shit out of you. But this is why we have boats......FAST BOATS. IMO, One of the very best escape vehicles known to man....."boats and water"......Bottom Line: Enjoy good times with Family & Friends, preserve and practice your core beliefs and above all, pray to God for guidance and thank him for his many blessings. Sometimes we get so caught up in our "worldly concerns" and we tend to forget those many blessings we have received and cherish.

Ya,even though I'm only 38, I've always thought it would be kinda cruel to have kids and bring them into this crapy world. There doesn't seem to be much left out there for some one to really make something of themselves, due to over gov regs, other than sit in a cube, turn wrenches, or clean up after others. Not saying im above doing any of these jobs, but the opertunities are not as abundant as they once were. If we could do away with agencies like EPA, ARB, and such they might have a chance once again. But that is is just part of the problem, in my useless opinion.

Good news doesn't sell so they don't produce it. There is, however lots of great news going on around us, all the time. Never lose faith in humanity!!! I got a call from a 94 year old widow friend of Janice and I earlier this week. The road to her home washed out by the flooding storms here in Phoenix and she couldn't get in or out with her car. I mentioned the need and the members of my Church rallied right away. This morning 51 people showed up with shovels, rakes and brooms and we had her 1/2 mile of roadway passable by a Corvette in one hour. None of them knew Millie (the widow woman) - only Janice and I did - but that didn't matter. They were glad to serve. I see this all the time and remain quite faithful of both humanity and our future as most were youth.

    Lavey29,
You are not missing anything. Love and educate your children. I wish I had children to worry about.

Very well written post that I totally agree with. Yes, when I hit that cove with my kids on the boat and spend the day there with not a care in the world it seems watching them play helps me escape but to be honest even during those times my mind thinks about their future and the struggles they are going to endure. Just seems like no matter how much I help them and plan for their future that everything around is crumbling and their struggles will be present throughout their adult lives. I hope not.

Thank you and yes my children are my greatest joy in the world. No matter how shitty my day was or the world is getting they still make me laugh each and every day. Seeing them as innocent as they are smiling and having fun doing the simplest of things kids do makes my stress level decrease and grounds me for awhile to whats most important. God bless you and your family also.

Beautiful story and I am sure good deeds happen everyday everywhere. I just am not seeing it I suppose or it is just that I am focusing to much on the negatives and not seeing the positives (if any) around the world or here.

Like I said, good news doesn't sell. There's not a film crew in America that would have passed up a car-jacking story to film those 51 willing volunteers and the service they provided.

    Clean laundry doesn't sell, unfortunately.

Before my Mom passed, she and I use to talk all the time. She called me all depressed of what was going on in the world. Was watching CNN, MSNBC so go figure. I told her to stop watching the damn national news and read a book or watch an old movie on one of the movie channels. And gladly she did.
