Funny that LBJ took credit for the Civil Rights Act, but it was blocked by the democrats. It took the republicans to pass it. Afterwards LBJ said "We'll have these ******* voting democrat for the next 200 years".

Can you explain this in more detail? I don't understand, as LBJ was a Democrat.
If the Democrats blocked it and the Republicans passed it, why would LBJ say they would be voting Democratic?

1964 Civil Rights Act Senate Version Ayes

    ...................Democrats..................... Republicans
    House>>> 153 of 244 (63%) ......136 of 171 (80%)
    Senate >>>46 of 67 (69%) ............27 of 33 (82%)

FACT: The 1964 Civil Rights Bill would not have passed without the majority support of the GOP.
The Senate Democrats filibustered for 60 Days in their attempts to kill this bill
, until cloture was invoked on June 10, 1964. This marked the first time in its history that the Senate invoked cloture on a civil rights bill. The Senate passed the bill on June 19, 1964.

Because of the ignorance of the masses, the only thing they saw was a Democrat President signing and supporting it at the time of passage.... LBJ and Democrats politically harnessed the opportunity and in the eyes of the minorities, LBJ was King and Dems were viewed them as saviors and that "lie" continues to thrive to this very day!

And let us not forget another example which took place on June 11, 1963, when Alabama Dem Governor George Wallace took his disgraceful "Stand in the Schoolhouse door" and blocked Blacks from attending the University of Alabama. As evidenced above, Alabama was no the only Democrat state that opposed desegregation.

Historical fact is: Republicans freed the salves and have ALWAYS been on the side of Civil Rights, one of the primary reasons the GOP was founded was to free the slaves.

The Republican Party, also commonly called the GOP (for "Grand Old Party"), is one of the world's oldest political parties still in existence, the second oldest existing political party in the United States after its great rival, the Democratic Party. It emerged in 1854 to combat the Kansas–Nebraska Act, which threatened to extend slavery into the territories, and to promote more vigorous modernization of the economy.

    On the day of passage.....
Georgia Democrat Richard Russell offered the final arguments in opposition.
Minority Leader Everett Dirksen, who had enlisted the Republican votes that made cloture a realistic option, spoke for the proponents with his customary eloquence. Noting that the day marked the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's nomination to a second term, the Illinois Republican proclaimed, in the words of Victor Hugo, "Stronger than all the armies is an idea whose time has come." He continued, "The time has come for equality of opportunity in sharing in government, in education, and in employment. It will not be stayed or denied. It is here!"

Agreed Jim. Times have changed indeed! But unfortunately, many changes are products of false impressions.
