I watched the full 1 1/2 hour version of this debate. Pretty interesting to see that the NAACP woman and black columnist think everyone else other than black people are to blame for problems in the black communities: banks, cops, school officials, judges, white people, stuff that happened 150-200 years ago, etc. Self responisbility is a foreign concept to them, just need more government help. I truely think this is the problem today with society in general. Personal responsibility is fading fast, it is always someone elses fault. This probably separates the successful from the unsuccessful.

One thing brought up by the black columnist was that prison racial diversity was pretty stable from the 1920's until the late 1960's. By 1972 the percentage of blacks in prison had shot up and he asked why? His conclusion was that it had to be racism. So when did the effects of Johnson's great society start? Break up of the family? Increase in unwed mothers? Increase of dependence on welfare and other programs? I think he brought up the right question but came to the wrong conclusion, unless you want to think that the founders and supporters of the great society policies are the true racists. Hummmm. Maybe if they took a little more personal responsibility and got off the government tit some of the other problems might start going away. Nah, I must be a racist for stating something logical.

Government became the "new daddy" with all of the unlimited giveaways and the "biological daddy" can run free only to impregnate again & again. Kids get fed and daddy is left to party hardy and gets "unlimited tail" and the "new daddy"excuses him from all his family responsibilities.
Sounds like a good plan to me Do the Liberal's feel better about themselves now. I hope so, otherwise we are wasting a lot of money and peoples lives with this misguided philosophy which offers no way out!

Preach on, brother!!! If they want out of this so called "slavery" and "oppression" they can climb/work their way out.

The gov and many other private organizations have made it very easy for blacks to go to school, open businesses, and giving them an advantage through affirmative action, minority grants, loans, etc. Then add the hiring quotas and black favoritism that comes with a community turning majorly black. Went and paid a traffic ticket a while back and the only white people there at that particular part of the sheriff's office were paying tickets.

It is apparent to me that the blacks that want to succeed can and do. In the South it is a common courtesy to stop and pull off the road when a funeral procession approaches at least until the immediate family has passed. One hot summer day I met one and just pulled off and under a tree on the side of the road. I sat there and watched the entire procession. The first vehicle was a super-stretched H2. Then the hearse and limo. Then there were all these HIGH dollar cars. I mean high end cars by Benz', Infinity, Audi, Lexus, Cadillac, and even a new Porsche. This was a black procession. That proved to me, the ones that want to make it will. And the hood rats will remain hood rats until we cut off their benefits and make them work!!! Well maybe after they riot, burn down the town, and start starving.
