I believe (But don't quote me on this) that the methane eating bacteria eats Methane and then EXPELS CO2......CO2 "Eating" would be a very different kettle of.....fish? That being said, we could possibly engineer a type of plant that grows- say a usable type of lumber-Quickly- that uses up CO2...We definitely need to do something and hopefully we can come up with something that is beneficial for jobs, profit and.....NOT CO2.....(Meaning the CO2 goes down/gets absorbed)(Methane is a much worse greenhouse gas than CO2- the only good thing being that it quickly breaks down)...

(Trying to find conformation(Yes, I actually do this at least once in a while- I am not an Idiot (Shut UP Tommy!) and found that a Harvard scientist is trying to engineer a bacterium that eats CO2 and creates energy...Sounds good if the Oil industry doesn't declare war on Harvard for trying this!)

Them bastards!! That's it, we're setting up in the main courtyard and drilling a 25,000' HZ with MULTIPLE Frac zones!!!

The industry won't go to war...they'll hire that professor at twice his salary...

That is a "No-shiter!"......I don't know if you ever watched it, but the "B.P. Richfield" character on "Dinosaurs" absolutely killed me sometimes....Voiced by, of all people, Sherman Hemsley....His Wesayso corp actually bought a volcano to stop a alternative energy invention...

Oh they won't try to stop him, they'll patent it.

Who do you think will advance alternative energy in the future?
The government, academia, or the energy companies?

Sadly, each has "limitations"....The Government could do a bit of investment in the future(But, of course they are notably in-efficient), Academia tends to get entrenched in previous ideas or in something that simply is unworkable, and the energy companies tend to want to suppress anything that threatens their proven profit makers....Personally, I think that the energy companies should be hell-bent-for-leather on alternative energy research...basically, beat everyone else to the punch- but giant for-profit corporations rarely work that way(Although they SHOULD!)

I personally think that solar energy for private homes is the most Libertarian idea to come along in years...You have your own energy, and can tell the energy companies to GTH.

    I agree.
Although I know that in some ways the energy companies (read oil and gas) are actually deeply invested in alternative energy research and development.
But you are right in that they are not going to release anything until the oil consumption is no longer profitable.
So use up as much gas as you can to speed things up!
