He hemmed and hawed for a while, leaving the option to renege on his resignation wide open. Never said he's sorry at all.

It's Trent Franks who is stepping down and it's a shame. I know his situation and I watched his statement. Very touchy subject but it did give him his only children as he asked about surrogate prior and it was all he and his wife had hoped for. He was seeking another but never sought sex. The circumstances were more than this great man could bear and he refused to put his family through the BS of the investigation.

Knowing the distraction it would cause, he was noble and had the integrity to realize how this would be too much of a distraction to properly perform his responsibilities.
What a crying shame. See his statement before you judge.

This is a very fine line but......IF the person actually did the crime (Assault/misconduct) but stepped down of his own choosing, I would suggest that there may be some possibility of redeeming qualities in that person......But that is really being "mealy mouthed"......

Our culture is shifting to treating women equally (It actually is still in progress- if you are honest about it) and I think both men AND women have a hard time fully adjusting to the situation...We subconsciously still think like we did 2-300 years ago- even if we >>honestly<< state, "I believe in treating women equally"....

All of this being stated, it is a matter of class to treat a woman with respect......

The guys who did wrong KNOW who they are, and should step down....But the ones who haven't any class or redeeming moral value would never consider stepping down.....

And, to put the other shoe on, the last "Rockford Files" movie had Hal Linden (of "Barney Miller" fame) as a teacher who is accused of child molestation....He is assaulted in jail, and then they find the actual molester....He is released, but can't get his job as teacher back, and finally, in despair, commits suicide. False accusations have happened....

I do think that it is a good thing that the "Zhit has hit the fan" as far as the sex assault/abuse situation.....If you abused my daughter/sister/mother- or friend- I would simply break every bone in your body......That, in my opinion, is the proper response of family members.....But I am a bit....reactionary on this situation.

Good post! Agree 100%. Unlike the Matt Lauers, Frankens and Bill Clintons of the world though, Trent Franks (as I understand it) got roped into this circus simply because he and his wife wanted a kid and he asked a staffer about it and that made her uncomfortable. A lot different to me than treating a woman with disrespect, although I would admit you can file his request under “what in the world were you thinking?”.. If you actually think about it, he must’ve thought highly of her to even ask. Nevertheless, he is stepping down (again, out of respect for his wife and the staffer) and putting their privacy and dignity ahead of his own political aspirations..... sounds like someone we need IN offfice, not out.

Franken’s whole “How come I have to leave when others don’t?” charade on the other hand is just childish, bitter, and shows he missed the whole point.
