Well we know one of them is going through more money than a teen-aged lottery winner and Oprah's not all that frugal either so whatever airline they wanted - privately chartered. Michelle needs half a plane just for her personal staff the U.S. citizens now get to pay for.

Thanks for adding that doc. The news won't show the plane, but the logo on the door says it all...

Well, without looking for it and right off the top of my head, I would say JetBlue, George Soros' airline. But I'm positive they don't do international flights. They made a special exception maybe though?

I am not going to bash Pres Obama for attempting to help Chicago get the 2016 Olympics. If he can sway the committe to give the U.S. the games over Brazil (Rio) then it will likely be the best thing he does during his presidency.
When a city, in a capitolist nation, gets the games, that city and it's surrounding area wind up getting billions of dollars worth of lasting civic improvements that are all paid for with private donations. It also stimulates tons of economic activity in that area, that often lasts well beyond the games. In addition it will also bring a lot of money from offshore into the U.S.
Hosting the 1984 Olympics was by far the best thing that has happened to the City of Los Angeles in my 50+ year lifetime. Chicago is our nation's third largest City and getting an Olympics to come there is definatly worth a few hours of any presidents time. Besides, what would we rather have him doing? Working on further screwing up our health care or putting a Cap and Tax on our energy production???

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Normally, but in this case it's a political payoff, the bribes, extortion and looting will be on an epic scale. No different than a third world dictatorship.

Newsflash, LA, Atlanta, Seoul, Barcelona, Athens, etc are not run by saints either. I have no doubt this will be the most currupt Olympics in recent U.S. history (It would be hard to beat the failed Games in Paris and St Luis in 1900 and 1904) but even so, like all post WWI Olympics, the good will most likely far outweigh the bad in terms of benefit to the host City and Nation. Even the disasterous games in Munich brought tons of needed civic improvements etc, that they otherwise would not have been able to afford...
The Olympics will be good for the U.S. and Chicago. I'd much rather have this president off chasing something good like the Olympics, than have him working on the more tyranical elements of his main agenda, ie gun controls and energy taxes etc...

Understood, in that case though they should go to Detroit...........can you imagine what that would be like?

Just a thought, the Olympics is a HUGE global political deal as well as local.

What kind of bribe do you suppose B O offered the IOC to get the games to Chicago?

I don't remember the Pres helping LA or Atlanta get the games. Hard working, commitees did all the work without the aid of taxpayers $$. The benefit came when TV contracts were negotiated. Remember Ueberoth in LA? That guy did some good work. Do you think Obama would be doing this if Dallas or Denver wanted the games? This is payback to personal and political allies in Chicago. On the other hand, this is the Olympics we are talking about. Who gives a sh*t?

I have no idea, but if he somehow fails to get the games, it will be a huge defeat for both his administration and the U.S. Part of me almost wishes for him to fail,, just to weaken him politically, here in the U.S. However, in this case, patriotism and love of sport demands, that I'd rather see our nation benefit by getting the games.

Fox made mention of this and said it was a 727 and I assumed from the reference, gov. owned.

I thought of this the same way. He either is relatively sure he's got a slam dunk or his big ego is going there to show off how it's done. The one who sickens me is Oprah, like she is somebody that can sway the committee.

I'm Patriotic in the fact I want the games to be in the USA but in the spirit of the Olympics and no politics involved, I think Rio would be a neat venue from the standpoint it highlights a part of the world that gets very little attention. In fairness SA deserves a "turn" at hosting this big event. The US had the games in 96' and Tokoyo had them back in the 70's or 80's so I don't think Tokoyo should get them again for a while. If they came to the US, Chicago would be a great place for them.

A large part of the games is world unity and the chance for a country to highlight themselves and their region. In this light I feel inclined to forget about the politics and money end of it and let the committee spread the event around in the true spirit of the Olympic way.....
