In my 20+ years in the business, I can attest that BP has, in fact, led the way in doing away with Performance bonuses on the labor side, and instituting strictly safety bonuses instead.
It is good to see that that is now applying to management as well.
It has been proven that performance oriented bonus plans do, in fact, lead to shortcuts in safety and violations of procedural policy, ultimately raising costs due to accidents, mishaps and the accompanying litigation and settlements. (Not to mention insurance premium increases)
