Gallup Finds U.S. Unemployment Hitting 10.3% in February
Underemployment surged to 19.9% in February from 18.9% at the end of January
    by Dennis Jacobe, Chief Economist

PRINCETON, NJ -- Unemployment, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, hit 10.3% in February -- up from 9.8% at the end of January. The U.S. unemployment rate is now essentially the same as the 10.4% at the end of February 2010.

The percentage of part-time workers who want full-time work worsened considerably in February, increasing to 9.6% of the workforce from 9.1% at the end of January. A larger percentage of the U.S. workforce is working part time and wanting full-time work now than was the case a year ago (9.3%).

    Underemployment Surges in February

Underemployment, a measure that combines part-time workers wanting full-time work with those who are unemployed, surged in February to 19.9%. This resulted from the combination of a sharp 0.5-point increase since the end of January in the percentage unemployed and a 0.5-point increase in the percentage working part time but wanting full-time work. Underemployment is now higher than it was at this point a year ago (19.7%).

    Jobs Situation Deteriorates in February

There is essentially no difference between the unemployment rate now and the one at this time a year ago; January's rate, in contrast, showed a 1.1-percentage-point year-over-year improvement. This suggests that the real U.S. jobs situation worsened in February. That is, jobs are relatively less available now than in January

Liberals just chose to ignore relevant information about the world they live in, and then call themselves sophisticated for having chosen to be more stupid than God made them.

But...But....But...They said the unemployment has dropped to 9.6%...They wouldn't lie, now would they....I know, I know...they are using the new and improved Government math to figure unemployment now.

When you do not count the people that have been termed out of benefits and when you do not count the people that are part time employees or under employed they don't count either. When you don't count those that do not and have never qualified for unemployment benefits they are not included in the offical count either. When you slectively count only the one you want to count you can make the numbers do anything you want...kinda like the way the libs manipulate election results.

How on earth are they going to blame Bush for this one? Seems Bush didn't allow it to rise like the Kenyan has:

The Kenyan said the recession is over in the SOTU address. I heard it with my own ears!

Give Rhambo a few minutes to consult with the propaganda division of the DNC and they will come up with some way to blame Bush. Or perhaps they will turn the chart up-side down and make 'Onumbnutts look like he did it single handedly. He is so dreeeeeeeamy and he can leap tall buildings in a single bound.

I assume you got the graph from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics here: Bureau of Labor Statistics Data

If you want to discuss unemployment rates, lets look at this. For this discussion, let's assume both Presidents Obama and Bush took office in February instead of January 20th as the month is almost over by then, and there is little influence a new President can have on unemployment in 11 days. On 2/2001 (when Bush took office) the unemployment rate was 4.2% largely because the great job President Clinton did with the economy. At the end of President Bush's reign (1/2009), unemployment was at 7.8%, which is an increase of 3.6% over what he inherited when he took office. As is common knowledge, the economy tanked while President Bush was in office, and he left his successor with a economy that was going downhill fast. When President Obama took office (we will use 2/2009) the unemployment rate was at 8.2%, 3.4% more than just a year earlier(2/2008). The unemployment rate as reported for 2/2011 is 8.9%, only .7% worse than when President Obama took office. It is clear from your graph that the President through successful policy has helped turn the economy around and the unemployment rate is now declining.

Now, to discuss your questioning whether the recession is over. Typically, a recession is defined as a decline in GDP lasting 2 or more quarters. Let's take a look at this graph, shall we?

It is pretty clear, that while the GDP was declining when President Obama took office, it has been increasing since the 3rd quarter 2009. I got the graph here. So it appears that once again you swung and missed trying to discredit our President.

While it is indeed fun to blame the president for all the problems facing a country, the big point to take from these facts is that the president Lied about the stats. Unemployment is not getting better.

So back to the stats. Your graph shows the GDP starting to decline in 2007 and not rebounding until 2010. Would it surprise you to find out that during those years the democrats had control of the senate, and at least a parity in the house if not outright control? In fact they took the control away from the republicans in 2007 when things started going down hill. Around 2010 is when the tea party movement started to really kick in and even though they had a majority most democrats were fighting to save their careers. Regardless, the tables turned in 2010 and Republicans gained partial control. New surprise, now that the republicans are in control of at least one branch, things are turning around again.

So depending on the spin doctor you want to listen to it's either the dems or the republicans that are at fault for the economy. But, there can only be one person responsible for the president telling Lies to the US public and that person is the president himself.

Rhambo's timeline is a bit misleading. He is using Feb as the true beginning of Nobama's term and perhaps that would be considered fact but looking back at Nov. 5, one day after Nobama winning the election private companies started massive layoffs in preperation of the impending storm. Sailors call it battening down the hatches and it is done before the storm, not after you are up to your eyeballs in foul weather. And Obama is about as foul as it can get.

All I know is that since the O Moratorium on Offshore Drilling and the confusion it's caused since has cost numerous jobs in the drilling sector along the Gulf Coast. Supply boats that were running for years are now docked, rigs of all sizes have been and continue to be moved elsewhere in the world, and projects for heavy support manufacturing have been put on indefinite hold.

The admin doesn't talk about these jobs but they make political hay on the number of temporary jobs added from census taking and stimulous projects.

Maybe Ram can google up some asinine charts that expalin the reality of what "isn't" happening to put folks back to work and how EPA mandates have again stopped maintenance and expanison projects in the petrochem/energy sectors that provide good paying long term jobs.......
