OK! Both left feet...again! I would love to have a world where I didn't have to know about gay guys (Gay...actually bi...women are ok!), but it ain't a perfect world, and I figure what people do in the privacy...I told a gay co-worker once that I didn't like seeing two guys grab-azzing in public...he said "You wouldn't mind a regular couple.." "No, I don't particularly think that's something for anybody to do in public!" I guess I'm a prude...

By the way, that damn picture is going to give me nightmares, tonight.....

Would Ashburn have even been elected if his constituents knew he was a gay?

I'm as conservative as most will ever get. Do I hate gays? NO! Do I know some? Of course, and I consider them friends. Do I approve of their choice?
Of course - for them! We each will choose what we want. It's our God given right to make such choices and we each will make choices throughout our lives for which we'll one day answer good or otherwise. I further believe what happens in the privacy of one's own residence is that person's business but I certainly do not want many of man's choices to be legislated as acceptable for all of society. I would disapprove of sending my child to school where every one of his/her teachers openly professed an alternative lifestyle as much as I would have them taught by openly professed heroine addicts. My teachers and coaches were valued role models and many of them left indelible impressions on my life for good or otherwise.

Since the beginning of time it has taken the union of a man and a woman to populate society and all the legislation in the world won't change nature. Personally, I prefer to see the traditional family include a Mother and Father. I'm just funny that way and I will not be supporting any legislation that mandates alternatives under the same title of marriage.

Doc, I agree...the teacher thing is a real hard one for me....I don't mind a teacher being gay, but don't go waving the rainbow flag in front of kids; Kids have enough trouble sorting the world out without having more stuff to sort out....they don't need stuff thrown in their faces....but let me make this perfectly clear; ANY abuse of chidren for their choices, by classmates, should not be tolerated....I have to say, I'm glad I didn't have a clue until I was 13...made life a lot simpler.....Sometimes I think I still don't have a clue....

Here's a hypothetical question: If one of your grandson's turned out to be gay, you would not support him finding someone and marrying them? Look at all the joys marriage has brought you; you would deny him the same joys you have experienced?

Probably not, and you have identified a troubling issue for me and a lot of us.
I assume there also congressmen who drink, do drugs, and beat their wives, while publicly protesting those behaviors. There are "feminists" (like Clinton) who are Lotharios, but get a free pass cuz they are pro abortion. All troubling.

That's one way to put it. Another way is to ask you, do you think you can change biology, plus thousands of years of tradtion, religious beliefs, economics, and law, in one fell swoop just because that issue is trendy right now?

Btw, I guess I am mildly against gay marriage, but I'm ok with civil unions.

Are you going to answer this question Doc, or continue ignoring it?

Your question is absurd as we teach correct principals so our children will govern themselves well in life. When you meet any member of my family you will understand that principal immediately. You will also understand what a real honest tall person is.
I'll start answering your questions and appropriately responding to your posts when you answer the questions posed to you such as who are you? What is your honest intent here? What prompts such a person as you to openly lie, distort, insult, accuse and defame others from a hiding place unknown. Which of your stories are really true and when will they be verified? I'm guessing never!
Well over a hundred people on this board alone know me, my standards, my family, my boating interests, the location of my home, my sons, even my honest height , and I've never once ducked a question from a real person in any forum. When you become real, I'll treat you as real. Until then, you are a troll hiding behind a library keyboard, with no real identity because of the insults you deal out daily to anyone you disagree with. You have insulted me, my family, my values, my opinions, my contributions here, my chosen field of employment, and even insulted my hero father in law by insisting he never served his country as a marine in WWII. You sir, are not worthy of any answer until you crawl out from under your bridge, clean up and lay it all on the table then let the chips fall where they may as most of us here have done. Until that day you are a troll to be ignored.

Scientific research suggests the principles you teach your children and grandchildren have nothing to do with them being or not being gay. Hopefully for their sake none of them are gay so they won't have to feel the shame and disgrace you undoubtedly would have contributed to them feeling towards themselves. Obviously my question was too painful for you to even consider thus your little diatribe towards me.

Man, sometimes you bring up some good points, but your kind of a dickhead with that post.

Which is what I intended because I took Doc as being kind of a dickhead with the post he directed at me.

That question is a non sequitor. A person can love and support a gay son or grandson and want them to find happiness in "Civil Union" and still not support redefining the word "Marriage". It may not fit your notion of supporting gay rights, but it is possible. In fact it is a commonly held view in both political parties.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
