This isn't my line but I thought it was funny. "If Obama walked on water the republicans would say he couldn't swim."

You mean he is sticking to GW's proposed schedule.

No one is pouting IMO, but some of the Rep. are certainly against it strictly for political reasons without doubt.
I will be GLAD to see our troops come home, but the results will remain to be seen.
It is the Middle East, after all, and there can be no "true" victory.

I think Cain was the most realistic in his response:

Herman Cain, in Detroit on Friday to promote his economic plan, also disagreed with Obama's decision.
"Whether or not its the right thing to do, I would consult with the commanders. The thing that I wouldn't do that the president is doing is telling the enemy how many troops you gonna bring out and when you're going to bring them out," he told NBC's Andrew Rafferty. "I believe our time there was worth it...But I would not have announced this big draw down, tell the enemy so they are going to basically position themselves."

If it does happen, the bottom line is that our Men and Women will finally be home. (At least from Iraq) That is GOOD!
Where it goes from there can only be down, no way around it.
No matter who is in the WH, or who tries to shape it, it will always be warring shit hole.

With that said, why did he wait until now?
He could have fulfilled that campaign promise long ago, instead of waiting until now just to follow Bush's timeline AND in the last year of his failed presidency.
You know the answer as well as I do Z, politics at the cost of lives. Yeah, he's some hero.
In this regard he is as bad or worse than any politician.
You do know that he is basically starting our involvement in Angola, right?
100 "advisers"......Your' an old guy like Me, does that sound vaguely familiar??

Bottom line, I cheer for the troops that will make it home, but I also see the move for what it is politically.

You are correct. Everything any politician says or does usually has has a political twist to it. Obama knows he will look good doing this and he knows the Republican will look bad critizing him. I'm just shocked they are so stupid to do so.... They will certainly lose in 2012 if they do not wise up and get behind all good things for America no matter who gets credit for it.

LOL! Yet typical of them. ... They pray for failures so they may gain political power. It is all they really care about.

I just hope these soldiers have jobs to come home to or the unemployment numbers will surely be going UP.

Keep your fingers crossed that the Democrats can use withdrawing from these wars as a political advantage for 2012. Politics may not be the best reason but there is no reason to continue fighting these unneccesary wars any longer.

I agree. Just remember that a bad day unemployeed in America is better than a bad day in a war zone! As for jobs? I do believe we need border guards on our Southern border.

It's good that ther are coming home, however Obama is simply following the guidelines set forth by Bush....pubisizing them to look good (mostly to his base) Moreover, they were negotiating to keep approximatley 10k troops there however the Iraqies would not agree to treat them with immunity for any potential wrong doing. Deal breaker with the US.

Look for gitmo to close before the election....wagers anyone.

People will try to spin it to there advantage on both sides but the truth is, it is the Iragies not giving immunity so we will leave and come what may.

Yeah....real funny. The 1st time I heard that was during the Johnson Administration.
