Default BWW promoter arrested on fraud

    April 4 2014

Robert Richards Jr was arrested on fraud for $200,000 in bad checks. Was he going to promote this years BWW and is it still going to happen?

He said his plan was to reimburse vendors of last year's event by generating revenue from a new event in Wheatland.

"The plan was to keep Big Wake Weekend going and produce and promote an incredible event at Camp Far West," Richards said.

I'm not sure if that would be Fraud unless it was intentional? Unfortunate seems to be a better term. If he wrote checks then he's screwed.

I think thats what the problem is... he did and he planned on banking money from the WHEATLAND BWW to pay for the FOLSOM BWW. But then how will he pay for the people at the Wheatland BWW? Oh yea 2015 BWW!!!!

Is that what they mean by 'paying it forward'?

In the events business the majority of vendors are paid up front (standard protocol) BWW 2013 was no different and many good local businesses profited from the event weekend. (Over 1000 hotel room nights where sold) There is a "contention" between two parties from BWW 2013 which now will be worked out through the court system and we are confident the outcome will be positive. Unfortunately the damage is done and now we must take the time to re-build trust, the only way to do that is to promote and produce entertaining and profitable events. I ask only one thing of you all on this forum, please take the time to get the facts and get to know me. I didn't run from the media or my obligations, talk to the people who worked with me in the past at BWW 2013 or Sonoma Raceway (formerly Sears Point).

I'm by no means perfect, hell if I was why the hell am I trying to promote boat racing!?!? Thanks for listening, I hope to see you out at CFW and BWW 2014, please come up and introduce yourself or call me 916-990-6620. I tell my side one person at a time if need be...

Thank you for coming on here and clearing up some misconceptions by telling your side of the story. Too often, promoters hide behind the scenes & leave the community feeling that they are being taken advantage of.....for your own personal gain. I hope that your BWW 2014 goes off without a hitch, it is successful, everyone gets paid AND you are able to make a profit and get people on the bandwagon for 2015.

That being said, it is going to be a tough road with gaining trust from people that don't know or are not willing to listen to the whole story, as well as trying out a new venue that has never hosted "organized" boat racing. I spent a lot of time @ CFW in the late '80's-early '90's and think that it is going to be a great party if nothing else. The NJBA is a good organization that has stood the test of time & it will be a great honor to have them racing in Northern California (and I have heard that the pre-reg is higher than a normal Bakersfield event already...YEAH BUDDY!!) as well as all of the circle boats to keep everyone entertained.

I look forward to the show and can't wait to be up at CFW after all of these years watching boats legally tear up 1/4 Mile Cove!

    Good luck,

    Paul Langlie
