    Default Parker River Runner Museum

I am starting to investigate the interest in starting a Boat museum in Parker Az. For sixty plus years this has been THE place all the cool boats of the day came to be skied behind, raced and used for family fun. It is the birthplace of River Party in boats and regarded so by guys and gals across the nation. Several states have museums for historic boats used in their area. I believe a Parker River Boat museum would be a national interest and generate great response. Tell me we all didn't jam up and down this river from dam to dam at high speed in some cool old boats. Making the tour along the way, Badenocks, Roadrunner, Sundance and back again. Before all these boats have been parted out to the car restow guys for the motors lets talk about saving some. There is plenty of cheap dirt here and probably some guys with dirt they would donate or loan to the museum. I bet we could put together enough money with an association from boat shows and the like to get a nice big metal building. So if you have any interest in preserving the heritage of this great place we partied and party today contact me on this site. Thanks Mark.

Mark, great idea.... Im sure there are also contractors out there that would love to donate time and/or materials to a job of this nature. Im not licensed in AZ, only in CA and would donate what ever electrical labor I could to help out working for somebody else in the area.

If you make it a 501C organization then everything donatable is a tax write off incentive for people to join in... check out that aspect too.

    Good luck in your endeavors!

I imagine a lot of guys out here would jump in and help to form the museum. I'm starting with nothing and from scratch but that doesn't matter. If it is something people want it will happen. My sister in law is an enrolled IRS tax preparer. She has a 501 C-3 she is not using. As long as it is for a charitable cause that donates to charity she would transfer it. Otherwise she will set one up for us. There are guys out here with garages full of classic boats they just can't let go of. I know why, they like having them to look at and don't want them to disappear. They hold lots of great memories. I built a multi-million dollar pool business from scratch and have helped other men to build businesses in my 64 years. I am a marketing master I'm told. I am also a salesman to the core. Which doesn't mean car sales. I sold and still sell million dollar pools and landscapes. I would head this thing up and direct as long as people wanted me to, but, when and if people think they want to change I won't be a brooding downer. I will just go along and enjoy what we have accomplished. This is NOT a Mark museum, this is about preserving some very classic boats and an era in our history that may never be as great again. I know Parker Az. and Arizona will get behind it. I have contacts and friends here in government and I can make this happen. I know one guy with eight classic flats in his garage and storage. I used to fly and go to the airplane museums. It was so cool to set around and listen to the stories from the experienced guys and watch them have a project plane in restoration. I can envision that kind of thing out here. Sure could be cool and bring a lot of joy to all ages from restoration guys with all the stories to kids and grandkids seeing all the boats and pictures and videos and artifacts (if you can call them that) of those great days on the river in great old boats. Thanks and please keep in touch. I may file for a business license in Parker just to get this started and have some organization before spending the money on a 501.

I know the action on the boards here is a little slow about this but I am getting mostly private messages about it. Az Mike and Ptc have jumped in with both feet on the deal. Seems like a lot of things there are the guys who are watching from the sidelines taking the temperature so to speak. You know, if we get it in the air they will buy a ticket then. Far from just a museum we are talking racing venue, racer BS bar over looking the river and some really cool events with weekly BBQ's in the summer months for all the people who want to come and relive or learn about the wild and wonderful Parker Strip four generations have partied on. From Elvis to Beatles to Disco and today the music has blared and the beers have flown. We will be seeking family home footage and pictures right away. We are planning on having some really professional Hollywood production help on collating and synthesizing these treasures into hours and hours of looped history playing all day long in the museum over the top of the greatest collection of river runner boats ever assembled. The location and design is top secret as we are playing it all close to the vest until we hear from those who will give us the yes or no. The less outside speculation and rumor the better.
I can tell all of you this will be like no museum you have ever been to. It will be interactive, we will have many boat shows for all eras, types and brands every year. We are seeking a large sponsor for the complex. We are talking campus style with different buildings, many shaded misted patios and walk ways. Some displays will be outside daily. Most will be inside. We want to be race headquarters for the river to be used by all the sanctioning bodies for their events and shared events. We are even considering sponsor boxes like stadiums. We want to not only construct the finest monument to hi performance boating in the world, we want to construct he finest racing venue in boat racing, Circle and Drag. We will show footage of races from around the nation donated by racers on Saturday nights at our BBQ's. Not only will this celebrate Parker and its history we believe it will serve to strengthen hi performance boating and racing around the nation. So if you are picturing some dusty dead static display of old boats in a barn, you are seriously mistaken. An old barn and a dirt parking lot would fill that bill, but why would anyone waste five minutes on that deal?
Over this winter we will begin assembling a board of directors to help us get this done. We will begin reaching out to sponsors. Most promoters of things like this do it backwards. They go looking for a spot then money. No property owner wants to hear you have a fantasy and no money. Build the organization, get some backing and credibility then you can go to the property owners with some dignity and clout. For example, what if Lucas says, " you bet ya we want in on that deal."? Hmmm Colts Stadium, Wheatland, Boat drag racing main sponsor and God knows what else. I bet a property owner would pay attention then. I personally designed and marketed a billion dollar marina, market place, home, rv park, island, water park, sports park project for the city of Bullhead. We found one BILLION DOLLARS to fund it. When some city officials decided to try and get rich by scamming the deal our investors went away. Sammy Hagar was in (Yep, Cabo Wabo Cantina on an island in Bullhead City) and Guy Fieri was talking with us, he's across the river at Harrahs now he liked our concept so much. So for all of you who think I'm pipe dreaming, think again. Az Mike is an architect and fully committed to doing the design and building plans with me. We communicate often.
So stop watching and waiting. If you have interest and want to be a charter board member get on this bus. We need the gray foxes who have experience in all areas of this. No one or two people will be able to carry this past design very far. We need contacts, negotiators, salespeople, connected people, racing organizations and sanctioning bodies to get on board here. With computers and CAD we don't have to have a bunch of face to face far traveled meetings. We can do it via several internet options, then meet in person as time allows and situations dictate. Wouldn't you like to be part of what will be the one and only greatest tribute to Americana and boating of the last seventy years? And be the home of the greatest boat racing in the world to boot? Give a developer a great design and an audience and things you never thought could happen will suddenly appear. I may be cocoloco but I'm far from loco.
