I live at Lake Tulloch in Northern California. It's an hour east of Stockton in the foothills. Today I went to look at another reservoir named Salt Spring "Valley" Reservoir which is about 20 minutes from my house to see how high the water level is since I had raced circle boats there with APBA's Region 11 some years back. If the water level was indeed up, I was also going to ask the person in charge if I could test my newly acquired drag boat there.
When I arrived it was absolutely full which I haven't seen for a long time. The man who runs the facility/campground came out to greet me. He had recognized me from when we had ran our circle boat there and after exchanging our pleasantries I informed that I now own a drag boat and wanted to know if I could test it there. He looked at me with a big smile and said, "absolutely, and funny I should mention drag boat racing because we're going to hold an event here on May 14 & 15".
I began asking him a million questions about the event and who was the conducting club and he remarked that he couldn't quite remember the name of the club but the man he works for and whom leases the property/lake is very excited about a drag race being held at the reservoir. He told me that the gentleman from the conducting club has been there several times now and even has the staging lights there. He said they're putting in another ramp at the end of the lake and are carving out a road to that ramp. He also said they're going to extend the pit area another 1000 feet and considering making more parking space for a possible overflow of spectators across the main road at the entrance. He did remark that the guy from the club said he doesn't want it to get too big as he wants to see how it will work out at this reservoir on a small scale.
Now, I'm not sure what I heard is all true, but the man who runs the place is not a man of tall tales. So, has anybody heard anything about this event at Salt Spring Valley Reservoir? (note the word "Valley"). This reservoir I'm referring to is not to be confused with "Salt Springs Reservoir" in this area. Salt Spring Valley Reservoir is only 10 minutes from the little town of Copperopolis, Ca. off of Highway 4 near Angels Camp.
note: to the guy (if he reads PBF) from the club who is trying to put on this race, I hope I didn't cause problems by saying anything about this event. The guy who runs the facility at the reservoir didn't say anything about "keeping a lid on it" to me. Again, I hope I haven't caused any problems for you or your club by revealing what I have heard.
