I'm toying with the idea of a 77 18' V bottom Southwind as my next "quick" project. I am trying to figure out what it takes to make one run in the mid 70's for power and setup. It has a basicly stock 454 with headers, berkley 12jc pump, berkey jetovater and full length stringers (beefed up replacements, not the original short ones). The boat is super clean and is almost ready to put back in the water.
The previous owner removed the 460, replaced the stringers with full length and had some fire breathing 871 496 BBC in it, but never put a GPS to it and only ran it a few times till a $$$ crunch hit and the motor got sold.
My question is, what should I expect to see with a stockish 454, and what will it take to get to the mid 70's. I'll post some pics tonight when I pick it up.
Thanks!
