I paid $15,300 for the subject boat last yr w/80 hrs on, engine was solid Merc 350 (compression in all cyl were strong), hull and interior in near perfect cond, ran the boat all last summer with no probs however I'm a first timer boater and still don't know if I bought a good boat for a great price or a turd for market value. Some one please educate me, I'm thick skinned so give it to me straight. Thanks for your honest input. :)

Not a whole lot of info regarding Aftershock(s) on this forum except that quality went south since Cerrera was sold to Aftershock. Any info on these boats would be good and where do they stack up with the big boys like Ultra, Essex, Hallet, Advantage?

Thanks Newbie

You did good. As another newbie, I bought an older Commander last March. 3 Tows on 3 separate occasions along with $2K in service and parts and I finally got to enjoy Aug, Sept and Oct. Hoping to have better luck this summer as I have learned alot

only had to be towed in once in 6 seasons and had it fixed in bout 20 mins when i got it back to shore while beached ( woulda fixed at the sandbar but it was late in the day and didnt know if the fix would work and had a guy that said he would tow me in)

Thought that was a splash from the original caliber 1 mold from cliff? not sure, anyone know? If its the same bottom, it should run pretty good.....:D

I have a 2003, 21' Aftershock Tornado, its pretty much the same boat as the skier. Your freeboard is higher then mine but my open bow is bigger. I also have the Merc 350MAG with a Bravo 1 drive. I bought the boat from a dealer back in Oct. 07 and it had 126 hours on it. I took it out that weekend to test it and everything was fine on it. I took into the shop the week after to have a full check-up done on it and my mechanic said everything was fine. Since then i now have about 220 hours on my boat and it runs perfect every time. The only thing i have had to do was replace the impeller pump housing as it started to leak when the engine was off and sitting in the water and replaced the the throttle cable, oh and i put new batteries in at as well.

Im meticulous about getting a pre-season tune up(around March) and at the end of the season i replace all the fluids and filters with new stuff. As far as the quality of construction of mine....i say its fair. I mean its not horrible but i deff have seen better rigging and such. My buddy has a 2003 21' Commander and i deff can tell the difference in workmanship and rigging, i.e. fiberglass, gelcoat, interior.

I paid $17,000 for mine when i bought it in Oct. 2007 which i thought was a fair market value for it at the time. Not a steal but deff didnt get ripped off. This will be my last season with it though, after this summer its time to step up to something in the 25' to 28' range so i can handle the chop better.

Yeah

Cliff sold them the mold or rented it to them, dont know which but one of them. Good running bottom!
Met cliff last year and he told me about the 21 Skier he and Leach came up with. Stated the bottom made it to about 10 Manufactures, splashed, copied, etc...

I just located one of the 21's bottom in Riverside, same as the ultra on ebay (slightly different) pretty sure I'm going to buy it, bottom runs good, boat looks good and easy to lay up. So..... looks like we might have 3 new options for Cheetah in 2010.

1) 20 Jet/IO/Outboard mini deck
2) 23 V-hull Stiletto (not tunnel hull) 24 Stiletto tunnel still available
3) Possible 21 skier ( tried true and tested)

all three smaller economy boats to sell in the low to mid 30's

Thanks Kevin at Cheetah

those bottoms on the 21 are great and i am pretty sure almost all the current 21s use the same bottom.

I have a 93 eliminator 21 and it also has a 350 mag(carbed).Been happy with it will do what i need to do pulls skiers no prob have had 10 people in boat and no probs could still cruise it at 50.Top speed is 60 on perfect day most time its 58.Gos all weekend on a tank of gas too.

You got a pretty good deal in my opinion

4 years ago I bought my first boat, new very little about boating except I loved being on one. It is similar to yours, 91' 21' Ultra Open Bow with a 454. The only motor problem I have had was a starter that I screwed up myself. I bought it for 12,500 with a brand new interior (so I thought), Paint was decent but not great. My biggest problem I have had so far is wood rot with the bases with all my seats and engine hatches. Last year I replace all of them and recovered everything my self, came out looking the same and my second biggest problem I had was the rats nest of a wiring the job the person before me screwed up. But other than that i have probably only put about 2k into it since I bought it and it has been great. The 2 things I mentioned are probably things you want to watch out for. Have fun out on the water sounds like you got a pretty good deal .
