check out F&M custom cowlings if there still in business. they have a pully dressup kit and there billet engine tops are pretty nice, many colors to match your shiz. kind of expensive thoughsphss
have you checked in the tunnels and cats section.... there is a daytona 22' that has gone up and beyond on his 496ho, you wont even recognize it. Really cool....devil
John's looks nice. Chrome CMI headers, chrome boat bling cover, chrome k&n air filter. Witout going crazy pricewise, this is exactly how i would do my next motor.
Those 496's are like a big black blob. Every things black.
I've done the exhaust which helped out a lot.
I have been trying to find after market valve cover, no luck yet.
Even some colored spark plug wire would help.
I might take off the stock valve covers and get them painted to match the boat.
Maybe powered coated aluminum color.
I notice that the vent area (what ever you would call it) are solid not open.
Could hold air hot under the cowl. The stock had open vent slots.
Looks good in carbon fiber.But $500 ??

Here's some I put headers on, then Charlie at Octane put Raylar kits on. They have some great midrange torque. I think they look as nice as I've seen on a motor package.
Here's before the Raylar kits. They still looked pretty good. BTW, the customer still has the covers sitting around and I can refer you to him if anyone is interested.
We've got some great cosmetics for 496's like ECM and coil relocation kits and powdercoated trick valve covers and pulleys for those interested. Here are some shots of some Raylar upgraded engines we do for Sunsation Boats. We just supplied two Raylar Red beauties in one of their new 32 XRT's. You can see it over on the Sunsation website under Hawkeyes new 32 XRT in the open forum.
Sunsation ran pretty well too, 96mph with 6 guys in the boat and a load of fuel. Not bad for a big deep vee with two 525HP stock exhaust motors!
Couple of idea pictures here for any with the Big BLACK BLOBS!
I have a 496 and unfortunately it's one of the worst looking motors around. Not a bad motor by any means but it it gets no style points at all whatsoever. The boat bling cover makes it look sweet though
I don't see the intake runners like the 525 has.
Is this a 496 with a 525 cover some how attached ?
Or is it all black and I can not see the view of the runners.
Looks good.
I compensated the boring looks of my black blob engine compartment and focused on the business end instead.I prefer to keep my hatch in the closed position anyway, lol!
Here is the best I could do with it. I am looking for a set of used CMI's now. It has the Raylar coil relocation brackets, valve covers, computer relocation brackets etc. Here is the thread for the complete step by step build. http://www.performanceboats.com//showthread.php?t=20876

My cover is hanging on the wall in the shop. No use for it. Just gets in the way.
