I have a 523 cubic inch motor, and picked up a M1 procharger the other day. Wondering if the M1 is adaquate or not for this project. The motor has flat top hypertutecic (SP) pistons with 119 cc heads and a solid bottom end, roller cam with just under .700 lift, I will have to look up the specs, but don't mind changing it if needed.

What needs to be done to the carb to work as a blow through?

Also, I am at 5000 ft elevation so how does that change things?

If the M1 won't feed the boat, maybe I will put it on the Chevelle with a small block.

Thats a lot of cubes for an M1!! I would try to find a nice F2 set up and go with that! They are self contained and will support 1600hp no problem!

I know everyone has their opinions, but I would reconsider the hyper pistons with boost. Even the very slightest detonation will kill them.

Pistons

What he said...bought a set a few years back and called SRP and asked them...the guy there even told me...no nitrous or no boost! I was wondering why they even sell that low of compression in that material then??
Buy good set!

Yes, get rid of the hyper-pathatic pistons!! A set of cast pistons would even be better than those, I do not know why they even sell them. Buy a good set of forged pistons and let it rip!! :)devil

Sounds like a set of forged pistons will be in my future if I go this route. Still concerned if the M1 is up to the task. If I sell the M1 and go for an M2 or M3 will it use all the same intercooler and tubing and mounts or does all that get bigger too?

go to the procharger website. all the "Marine" versions are kinda weak. the M1-M3 are not a direct comparison to the F1-F3. like TT540 said, you should think about the F2, if you are real serious about it. I have the F2 and my goal was with pumpgas boost to be clost to the 1000hp mark. i think on 10lbs pump gas will work just fine for me, and i expect because of how much air the F2 moves it should put in the 900-1000hp range. then turn it up and make well into the 1000 hp. something to think about, it really depends on what you want the boat to do, and how you are going to use it.

What type of boost numbers do you think the M1 is capable of, both on the 523 and a 350?

Don't think I care that the boat is not a triple digit rocket, but if I could use the M1 and gain 10-15 mph I would probably be happy. I am guessing the motor now makes 600-650 hp if I could get 6-8 lbs of boost out of it I would be happy.

the biggest problem with procharger is that they do not give out any maps for there blowers. you can call them and they can give you an idea, but my guess would be that you could make 6-8 lbs, but it would probably be working pretty hard and spinning pretty fast to fill up that many cubes. the life of the charger will probably decrease quite a bit and the air charge will not be as efficient, as it will probably be considerably hotter than if you did the same thing with an F1 or F2.

Ok called procharger and they are guessing that the M1 on the 523 would make about 5 psi of boost at sea level, so that will be 20% less here :( And that it would probably be capable of 15+ psi or so on my 383 motor. Sounds like I will have the most fun with it on the Chevelle!

And the F2 kit is well over $5600... ouch

I got 9 #'s at 5300 rpm on 500" BBC

I ran an M1 with the smallest pulley which Procharer sells / sold and consistently got 9#'s boost measured in the carb enclosure.

Intercoolers... Procharger vs Superchiller

Searacer were you running an intercooler? I read somewhere where the procharger intercooler and plumbing consumed 1-2 psi over the Superchiller stuff.

I can not find a web site for Superchiller

Check Teague. They now own superchiller.
