I don't know why anyone can find it so hard to believe. There's only one reason "crate" engines are built in the first place, and it isn't to do the performance workd a favor. They're cheap, and I don't mean inexpensive. They're money makers for the seller and if most would investigate exactly what parrts go into these engines, and where they come from, you wouldn't be so surprised. six-oh-nine siad it perfectly,
"you want top notch hand crafted quality... you don't go to the WalMart."
When I read Steelcomps post on the Mitchell crate motor it made me think of this POS. You know the real reason they build crate motors? Because they sell. They sell to wannabes who are clueless, they sell to guys who don't know a cam from a crank, and they sell to guys who think they are getting a killer deal because its almost as cheap as the parts to do it yourself. And the magazines are the most guilty of promoting the last one. Sell them ad pages. Popular Hot Rodding just ran a article on Scott Shafiroff latest. A low deck 4 1/2" stroke 598. In the article they never mention the rod or the so called "custom" piston. And claims he has always wanted to build this motor. It's the crowd the needs a 600 incher and wants to put it under the stock hood of a camaro.:)sphss Sign me up:)sphss:)sphss He uses a piston designed for use with a .400 long rod on 4 1/4 crank with a 1.53 rod ratio. I can assure you Mahle never intended that piston to be used for that, and the skirt is in no way designed for a rod ratio of 1.41. The piston has a 1.12 comp ht. and a skirt about 1/2" below the centerline of the pin. Want to talk about one unstable, rocking ass piston? Ring seal? Who needs ring seal when your playing with 598 inches. The crank counter weights are wittled and cam cut to hell. and a whopping 795 HP. B.F.D. do people really buy these POS. Evendently they do.

i have always felt the same way about these so called crate deals;)they are mainly junk i dont care who they say puts them together:|err

find someone else to take your money that has a clue as to how a mill is suppose to be built,better off in the long run.:)handjust sayin.

Yup I would agree with you....also a 4.5 stroke in a short deck is just wrong...:)sphss

LOL...hey GN...how far do you think that piston is coming out of the bottom of the cylinder? :))eek:))
