What are the pro/cons with the Inducer impeller on the Berkeley. Stock Indmar 454-F pump.
I am in the process of buying the boat next week.
I was a Berkeley dealer from 76-03 when I retired. I still have some of the tools. I plan on rebuilding the pump and will probably do some up dates on the 454 by adding a thermostat set up, marine HEI and what ever I see that needs attention. Was there ever a carbon seal conversion to replace the rope packing gland? I know that a lot of things have changed that improves the overall performance of the pumps in the last several years.

I am no expert but from what I have read/heard the inducer is only needed for high-HP situations- I have a CVX-20 w/mild 460 (400 HP @ 5000) and I never have any cavitation problems (Unless I get a piece of driftwood in the pump!)

I was actually able to get my boat up to 3.78 mpg by building the engine using ideas from the GM LS engines (Tight quench, 9:1 comp ratio, wide lobe separation cam) a Weiand Stealth manifold and Edlebrock Marine 750- which I leaned out in the midrange (You can't "lug" a jet)...I also used a Legend Jets impeller which acts like an overdrive- 200 rpm less at cruise (30 MPH) while allowing the engine to hit the same top RPM.....To give context, the DD ski boats get between 3.2 and 3.5 MPG...So, yes, my JET gets better numbers than them!) (Performance of my boat= Top speed 62 mph and 0-30 in 3 seconds)

I have a complete write-up over at "Classic Glastron" forum, "Projects in Progress"....Everything should be transferable to your 454 (When you want to do it) The Legend Impeller is now sold by Place Diverter for $380)

Thanks for the reply. I just got back last night towing the boat from Lake of the Ozarks. A 15 hour tow. We have a new Ford Ranger Lariat with the tow package that worked great. I drove the boat and it tops out around 55, I plan on refreshing the pump and engine later.
The owner took really good care, he has had it for 10 years. Always covered in a floating pontoon slip. The boat is visible on the web. 79 Taylor SC.
Lake of the Ozarks is a beautiful place but once people are out running their boats it gets rough and stays that way because the waves keep bouncing between the shore line. The guy I bought the boat from explained it to me and driving the boat proved it to me.
Down here our lake is 24 miles N-S and much larger E-W plus there many rivers and bayous to cruise in that feed the lake.
