I need a little advice on what type (Tunnell ram/single plane) ,and brand (Edelbrock,Wieand,Holley,Dart)of intake manifold and what size cfm carburator ,works well on a jet?

A little about the engine that I am putting together.

454 BBC,solid roller, bored 30 over ,4.25" forged stroker crank,for 489 C.I.D.

Forged SRP small dome piston's with about 10:1 CR.

049 iorn oval port heads mild porting and 2.19/1.88 valves. Do not have flow numbers for these head's.

Comp cam's ,Marine mechanical roller camshaft, grnd# 360ar-10, 4500-7000rpm range.
DURATION; 271/[email protected] .050"
LIFT;.680 in/.680 ex
LSA; 110*

Possibly a single stage NOS system.

Setback Berk 12jg/"B" impellor.

What intake/carb setup might work best for this combo? Thank's....Hal

You might get a little more response on this in the "On the Dyno" section. That is where a lot of the engine builders hang out. Good luck.

The engine builders mostly hang out in the "On the Dyno" section!!! Post it there!!!:)bulb They will chime in for sure and give you great suggestions over there. I created a Horsepower estimation thread over there and got 46 replies and 578 views!!!!!!!!!!:D

I would run a Weiand Team G and a Holley 850 or something like that. But I am by absolutely no means an expert on this or really anything that has to do with boats or motors. I've heard, "jets like big carbs", so a tunnel ram with dual Holleys on top would probably be an even better combination. But again I don't know much about this stuff. I guess it all depends on how much money you're willing to spend and how much you are looking to get out of your motor. Hope this helps.

here is my .02cents worth.

dart single plane oval port intake;)or brodix intake either are top shelf pieces:)hand

at least a 850 but better with a dominator,or you could get a custom built carb to your specs built,we have used biggs performance products several times been very happy with there custom carbs,anyway

if you would have posted in the dyno forum been quicker repsonces but they will see it and come:)hand


the heads are really gonna hold you back imo with a 4.25 stroke, and the cam profile that mutha is gonna want air and lots of it.:|errwell forgot my train of thought oh well,good luck travis

the biggest issue is you wil get 100s of opinoins on this subject about t-ram or single carb.

50 percent will say t-ram it
50 percent will say single carb it

or hell i might be totally off,but im no t-ram man and im stickin with it.


big singlecarb tall single plain intake,and it will do just as good if not better than any t-ram motor promise:):)punch

you want most HP of best fuel economy?? what are you trying to achieve with it??

you want the most HP then a TR with 2 600's if you want the best you can get but better fuel economy then go with a victor series single plain by Edelbrock with a nice 850 DP

well if you want to go t-ram why not 2 750s or 850s;)
the dart or brodix single plane intake will beat any other intake hands down,single plain.

i have had many charts and peeps tell me t-rams will make more power well ive sure seen alot of them lose against single carb motors,maybe there setup.

your mill is not that big so either way will be productive of what you want:D

if you're goin 4150 carb, look at the new team g's and 950hp's ;)

well I think 2 750's or 850's are way to big..

my 496 for example with AFR heads and alot bigger cam only needs 915 CFM but i chose to go with a TR so I went with the 600's , why over carb it and jet it down out of the carbs range when you can go with a smaller carb and stay more in its jetting range. more fuel dosent always mean more HP without a huffer or turbo's its just a waste IMO..
