I'm not using it ,but heard and read good things about it.
That FAST stuff seams to be very nice.

there's a really good article in HOT ROD about EFI. they show the pro's and con's of each system.
not sure what Month read it in the Dr office last week.

BTW I've got the Haltech E6X

BTW I've got the Haltech E6X
November 08, just bought it last week to read on a flight. Instaling a "Mass-Flo" EFI system on a Red Chevelle w/ the hood off on the cover.

According to the article Everything is provided in the kit, but can be optioned w/ data logging and intelligent traction control.

Will need a place to put an O2 sensor, as it looks like the computer basicaly tunes itself.

I just put the FAST XFI on last week.
I have not had it in the water yet so I only tuned what I could with no load.
It starts easy and idles smooth.
The new system let me upgrade to sequential injection and closed loop.

I assembled my own flying lead harness for this one.
It was a lot of work but I learned a lot too.
I mounted it all to a piece of plywood that I could screw to the back of the back seat.


The FAST is a real popular system but there are many that would work equally well. I bought the FAST not because I needed a new system but because someone in CA was selling it brand new for 15% of what they paid for it. After buying it apparently he decided a carburetor was a better way to go. :rolleyes:

There are many similarities between popular EFI systems.
Initial setup and learning the tuning parameters is the most important thing to installing it. Tuning with an O2 sensor is imperative.
Anything running closed loop is going to tune itself but the maps need to be adjusted so that there is minimum O2 correction. You don't want to rely totally on the O2 sensor.
The 3D view of the fuel map lets you make sure your maps are smooth and don't look like a motocross track. :D


I wouldn't be afraid of tackling any brand unit now.
I also would not be afraid of installing a used unit.
The ECU's are pretty much made to last forever.

The least expensive but the most DIY unit is the Megasquirt.

GREAT info unchained. Your talk of the O2 sensor has me a bit worried. I'm running Lightning jacketed units, water running through them all the time. I did have a buddy weld in an O2 bung, but have some conserns that water may still impact it ???

What about boost ? They can compensate for that as well ? What if I decide I want to run good gas for one weekend, is it easy to change ? Thanks again for the answers, want to learn about this stuff.

A buddy just bought a 21' Daytona with a blown 580. It's running the Autronics system, and I was very impressed how well it just firied up ice cold, and how responsive the throttle was. Not to mention how bad ass it looked :D

EFI is perfect for boost, mine has a MAP sensor to monitor boost/vavuum levels (it all in the fuelmaps) .

according to lightnings web site they can install O2 sensor bungs.

Not sure about the other systems, but with the Haltech
ECM i have the option to have 2 different maps loaded at one time
and just use a toggle switch to change between the two.
I plan on using this option for that exact reason.

and with your laptop you can download a new map in just a few minutes.

Autronics is a real top notch system.
Easy cold starting, smooth idle, and crisp throttle response is a characteristic of EFI. Port injection puts the fuel in as close to the cylinder as possible.
Sequential port injection is the next step better yet as it puts the fuel in right on the intake stroke.

You might think about getting a book and read up on EFI some.
Research time is well spent. My learning curve would have been a lot shorter if I would have started out studying up.

Thanks for the tip on the book. I love to research the crap outta stuff. I'm no were near ready to buy one, but went to learn as much as possible.

How well, if at all, can EFI deal with water/methonal ? It changes things, but only when the driver decides to use it. Can a proram be established that changes when I depress the water/meth button ?

Most ECU's have multiple power adder functions that will turn things on or off at a programmed RPM, throttle position, or M.A.P. reading.
That would be the way to go with the water/meth inj.
Depending on what you want to turn on, it may require a relay.

You can also have it so that it turns the datalogger on at a preset RPM, throttle position, or MAP reading.

As far as changing the maps or program when the water comes on........I don't know how you would do that. I would think the fuel maps would have to be configured to end up with the proper A/F ratio to work with the water/meth ahead of time.

I am an Accel DFI EMIC Dealer. I have been using Accel for 4 or 5 years. Feel free to call me and I can answer your questions. It is a fairly sophisticated system that might be a little tough if you are a first time EFI tuner.

A co-worker ran one on a Turbo Coupe T-bird, engine was built up too, but make tons of power, with the DFI system. He remove the DFI from the car prior to selling it, the car was a pooch back all stock.

Thanks for the detailed answers unchained (Mark ?). I am going to pick up that book and start learning. EFI sure seems like the way to go. I still can't get over how crisp the throttle response is !!!

How do you get the O2 sensor to work with headers such as Bassett's ??? I'm ass-u-ming you must run them dry ??? Is it true that any anount of water touching an O2 sensor will ruin it ? Like I stated earlier, i now have an O2 bung, but have a small concern about reversion and a small amount of water touching the sensor ? Not sure yet, just a concern.

Brian, I'll take you up on that offer.
