Question...why would all of a sudden my free edition AVG 7.5 go from under one hour run time to a solid two? I haven't installed any new programs etc.
BTW it never finds anything, that's a good thing. > very selective porn surfing :D

Run a defrag on the volume.

I never even run a full scan.It is scanning in the background always anyway and then set it up to check e-mail and when you open a file.

I have had AVG run long if I have not cleared the caches and temp files first. Try out Purge IE.... clear your files, then note how many files are scanned in AVG. If the count is the same, look at what programs are running the background.

Yep, I cleared out all temp files etc did a defrag(didn't need it) ...yesterday still ran for over two hours. I'll have to check how many programs are running I don't need or use.

If you go to freedownloads.com, and download superantispyware and run it you'll find everything will run faster.
A de-frag and a disc cleanup does wonders too.

You Porn will really load your computer up with cookies and all kinds of flotsham and jetsham. Especially if you click on the links it'll be X10.

So are you suggestion I remove my AVG 7.5 and just use the "superantispyware" or run both?
I also have and use Spybot and Ad-Aware once a week.

Hammer check your available disk space. If your disk is near full speed will slow dramatically. (control panel, my computer, right click on c-drive and view properties).

I use Spybot and Adaware also and they have proven more than adequate. I also use Trend Micro, but I've heard AVG is good. The AVG product is primarily an anti-virus product, not anti-spyware. You do need both so I would not remove the AVG unless there is a problem with it and you intend to replace it with a different "anti-virus" program.

We run AVG and superspyware and they work teriffic together.

We tried all the other spyware/adware removals and this combo worked the best.
Like Rex says, ya need both virus protection and Adware/spyware protection.

We have an Apple in addition to Windows computers in the house.
Most our electronics aren't totally compatable on Apple.
Also, You Tube and You Porn & Jay Lenos garage load and run very slow on MAC IOHO's..

I've been on an Apple for over 5 years and haven't run into incompatibility issues yet (cameras, video cameras, printers, external drives, scanners etc.)

As far as YouTube and the other mentioned things, try running running them on FireFox. I have run into issues with Safari on some things and once I installed Firefox, I've never had a problem. Good luck!!

C Drive
*Used space...9,673,011,200 bytes 9.00 GB
*Free space...30,318,297,088 bytes 28.2 GB
*Capacity 39,999,308,228 bytes 37.2 GB

Computer runs fine, just the AVG 7.5 run time doubled.

You might spend a few dollars and step up to IOLO System Mechanic - it's a maintenance program, firewall and anti-virus all in one program.

McAfee - junk
Norton - junk

I trashed Norton on the wifey's computer with 3 years left on a subscription. I kept getting "eminent hard drive failure" warnings and after reformatting the drive three times, narrowed it down to the resident and pre-loaded Norton junk. Loaded up Sys Mech and is all good now.

I run Spybot once per week and Sys Mech once a week and with that combo, I have an older computer (7 years old) that still runs like new; along with two other desktops and a laptop, all running great on that maintenance program.

Sys Mech has a RAM defrag that recovers a lot of lost memory. And the registry cleaner also cleans up/speeds things up.

I also have a 750G Maxtor external drive for backup - and whenever it's plugged in, my Internet download drops from a 10meg, to a 1 meg download. Solution - keep that sum bitch off unless needed.

You might also disconnect any devices, see if there are any software bugs conflicting with devices.
