IMO ( not that it matters) 65 miles of shoreline is not that small.. Started going there before the new dam was finished ( pre '70). Great place to ski as long its not on the weekend when everyone comes up the hill... Group and standard camping along with the recent addition of on the lake stuff. A mini Shasta with steep clay and "sand' banks.. Nice 'up the river cruise" where one of the yuba rivers dumps in. Don't tell your friends!

It's a very nice lake. Some call it a mini Tahoe due to the water color. I would not go that far, but it's nice. I have houseboated a few times there. Like the other person said the shore line is very steep. Not a good beach lake. I have never shore camped there, so no help here.

Bullards Bar is a nice lake when the water isn't too low. I was up there 3 weeks ago and the water level was still ok, about 50' down. The water is a cool emerald color and looks like it might be cold but in reality it is usually around 80 degrees. There is some boat in camping but I would say the water is too low right now...too much of a hike up from the water line to the camp site. We ended up staying at a camp ground about 10 mile away at a small (no power boat) lake named Lake Francis. The ammenity there are nicer than the campgrounds around Bullards Bar. They have showers, flush toilets, and power. The 10 mile drive isn't bad if you rent a slip at Bullards and leave the boat in the water. If you choose to trailer the boat back and forth it is a pain to launch and retreive every day. Go check it out, it is worth the drive.

We usually go to the "Dark Day ' end of the lake (eastern) launching at the Dam is a Pain.. Brand new area to park in the overflow lot on the point just above the Ramp area. Not bad.. but as others have stated, if its low , its a long walk.

I "get" to go 8.1 thru 8.11.. cant wait.

I just got back 3 hours ago. We have been going for 9 years. It is a terrible place almost as bad as Shasta. Boat in camping is nice at garden point with sandy beaches. Water is a little low this year.
