i had to relief cut my pistons for the valve a little more & got carried away & wound up polishing the tops of my pistons for detonation resistance & to keep carbon from hopefully sticking to the piston. anybody have any info if this will help & how much ? will it run more timing now ?1* 2*? any dyno info? i was actually lifting the head there! i just went to the 1/2 studs too.,due to too many helicoils & constant water in tthe oil.

How long have these been available? I don't have the 6th head bolt provision on my bowtie tall deck. Running cometics, any Idea on my boost limitation? engine is similar to yours but would like to keep the boost down.

They say ignorance is bliss, But I am not blissful right now.Mark asked me about this. I am hoping my setup as is will be ok for now. What I am wondering is this a viable option,These RHM Inserts, or should a new block be in my future? As of 2 yrs ago,I ran a 580 gas/roots blown 12-14psi with a 250 shot of nitrous with no gasket failure,"cometic".DTS dyno @1070 hp and 1288 with the nitrous on @6400rpm. went thru 7, 10lb bottles in 3 months. Did not run the boat last yr, and decided to change due to noise Law harassment, but the basic engine remains. Nice Dart heads with shaft rockers, etc, Kept the same cam. Purchased 2, S480 turbos, 60 mm waste gates and 1 blow off valve, Same intercooler as Hass, Same intake and carb,JE turbo pistons, Smith Bros Psh rods, Olsen Pan with -12 drains. goal is 1300 hp on pump 93 less hp is ok as long as I am quiet. Dyno time will take place.

i would definatly get a block that already has this incorporated into it. it wound up costing double the estimated cost to do + the sonic test + the many helicoils put in & the helicoil removal to go 1/2 " studs, drilling for the studs . the studs were over $300. worrying about block failure. all the water in the oil from seepage though threads etc. get a good block ! i could of had a (good)v8 :D

That kit will stop the problem of lifting the head & gasket in that spot. As for just how far you can push that block, every one is a little different but your right there at the limit.
When you finally decide to do something about it I would suggest going to an aftermarket block. Its an all around stronger platform to build on and the head bolts are blind tapped so no worry about water there and stripped threads from water errosion.
If it were me, I'd go ahead & run it the way it is but I would be gathering the cash so I could purchase a block and have it ready for the next tear down.

it's always good to have a spare motor/block. i want to gut the 454 gm block & put it all in something else. although it seems wrong to do that when i could get a tall deck ,bigger bore deal & then i would need a intake ,pan ?, pistons ,rods ,might as well go a stroker crank, rebalance etc.7k + instead of @$1500-$3000?for a aftermarket block .
