i bought a running 454 off of craigslist, it ran for a while then lost main bearings, when i was taking it apart i noticed all of the pushrods are the same length, i thought BBC had staggered pushrods, when searching for new 3/8" pushrods i see they sell them staggered and all the same length. with a factory ratio roller rocker should i get staggered or same length pushrods? cam will be .260/.260 at .050 duration with .600/.600 lift.

Out of curiosity, how long are they? Normally intake and exhaust are close to 1" different, hard to imagine that it was working with all 16 the same.

To get proper rocker arm geometry, you can't just order pushrods and put them in the engine, since there are variables in components. To get it correct you have to get the engine assembled to the point where you can use adjustable pushrods to determine what length you need to buy.

the rockers and cam i am using were being used with stock pushrods, i was just going to go back stock length, im wondering if somebody put the wrong pushrods in it and its why the motor seemed so underpowered.

does anybody have an adjustable pushrod i can borrow when the time comes?

How long were these "stock" pushrods? Rough measurement with a tape measure is fine.

BBC's use a different length intake pushrod vs exhaust.

Since this motor is going to need a total rebuild, take the time and familiarize yourself with BBC's and have it rebuilt right. During that time, see what the engine has for parts in it - apparently whomever put this motor together last had no clue - as it may/probably have other wrong parts in it.

Pushrods don't brake for no reason, so chances are for whatever reason the old pushrods where replaced, there is another reason. Batched rebuild or whatever. Who know until this thing is studied hard !
