Which rod bolt would be a better choice in a 496 w/ eagle rods in a jet boat? The motor has 13:1 with Brodix heads and a 250hp n2o kit, dyno is going down after motor is together but rod bolts are my last purchase and I want to get it right. I was wanting to know if the ARP 2000 pro series or L-19 would be the best choice for this motor with a MK4 GM block

I prefer the L-19's... they are a bit more stout... and fastner strength is a place where going overkill doesn't hurt. The 2000's would be fine though... either way... they are both good quality.

Two different techs at eagle told me to go with the 2000 for a marine/jet boat application and said they are good to 1200 hp. I thought L-19 cuz they are the strongest but they said the 2000 is the better choice for clearance and frequecy of use, something about resistance to corrosion from extended periods of sitting up like winter storage, but I don't know.

if you do a search on the web you may find some issues with the L-19 bolts, maybe a bad batch or two out there. bean counters and all ? overseas batch maybe ? read it somewhere if i find it later i will pass it along.

Think of the L19 as a race bolt, and and the 2000 as a excellent performance bolt. The L19 has a higher ultimate tensile strength, the 2000 has a longer fatique life. The reason they don't recommend the L19 fore marine use is kind of joke. The L19 subject to stress corrosion, but water itself is the least of the problem. The real culprit is crankcase acids. Don't keep your oil spotless and changed frequently and that bolt will bite your ass. It also should be changed more frequently than the 2000, but if it is in a play boat chances are it will never be cycled in a range that effects its life span. I personally run L19s, but would never consider them in any thing less than a race motor, or at the very least, a motor that is maintained like one.
