What brand is the better 460 Ford tunnel ram ?

Weiand or Offy ? or is there another choice for cast ? I'm not talking sheet metal

For 500-520" engine @ 6,500 +/- Cobra Jet intake ports ?

You'll probably make as much or more power with a new TFS mafia intake and a single Dominator, but if your just going for looks does it really matter what TR you use? :D

Both of those cast tunnel ram designs are decades old and a lot has been learned since their inception. Currently they remain all that we have available in tunnel rams for the OEM 460 port design. The 460s, by virtue of their intake port architecture, love tunnel rams.

They are not terrible and they definitely enable a substantial power increase, but we need a new one of an updated design. I know that Kaase has cast a new design some years ago but it is not yet available. I also know of another individual working on a very interesting modular design (sorry can't elaborate). And I've got a design in my head that has been discussed at a table, but creating the pattern to cast it might take as much as $10,000...and we haven't even started the test casting yet.

If you look at your A460 T/R runners, Jon, and compare it to the Offy and Weiand, you'll see the primary problem...which is in the inverted runner taper that is in the Offy and Weiand. The engines do benefit from the current available designs--probably due to the increased runner volume they provide for each cylinder--but they could offer a lot more upper rpm power with some updating.

The Weiand is the newer design and offers sideways carb mounting. But it must be ported quite a bit to get it up to SCJ port size. The Offy is SCJ port size as-cast, but the runner walls are thin and there is little room for improvement.

The Weiand is a better design, and at least allows for choices of tops since it uses the same tops as the BB Chevy Super Pro Ram (based on the dominator bolt flange). The runners aren't really "reverse tapered" as far as area is concerned, but they do share that Weiand "D" shaped opening in the plenum which gives it that appearance.
If you want to know what really needs to be done to make that intake work, here's a good example:

Unfortunately, the ford port "architecture" doesn't really lend itself well to a production "cast" TR becuase the ports are spread so far apart. I don't think any two runners of this intake approach the head at the same angle; some requiring the air to make quite a severe turn at the port enterence, and I think one is a nice straight shot. The individual plenums are small, even with the connecting area. It's more of an effort to just make something that looks cool, you can stick two carbs on, and by default, will offer an increase in performance. Unfortunately, it's about all there is for the production style heads.

thinks for the info Paul and Scott.

I like those mods on the t/r Scott I'll keep them in mind if my buddy wants to follow thru with what he's thinks he wants to do.

I wish there were some results somewhere for those mods. They look promising, but still...you never know.

Here's one I did for a BB Chev. This top would bolt to that Ford base if I'm not mistaken.
