As soon as I get biesemeyer back I'm going to start rigging it, I have a blown 522 ci chevy I was thinking of put in it. My question is; driving the prop off the snout, could or would it be possible to drive the blower off the flywheel end of the motor? My hull is along deck and was look for more leg room/ get my big ass further away from the dash. Thanks Trevor

Rear Blower Drive

I believe that Mooneyham makes a rear drive blower setup. I think that it is designed for jet boats to give more room in the boat.

Can't see any reason that it would not work in a V-drive. Should give you about 4" to 6" more room.

The guys at Islander Marine are making a system that drives the blower off the flywheel.

so do the rotors have to be changed, and can you still get away with an ofset mag in the standard chevy location.

It uses the same rotors, but they are flipped end for end to get the rotor drive ends to the back, and flopper side for side due to rotation. You can't simply rotate the blower due to the staggered bolt manifold pattern.
If you look at the pics in the link you will see the blower is drive off the left side of the blower (looking at the pulley end) compared to the right side of the blower.
The blower sits in exactly the same postion as before, but the snout now sits over the dizzy. If you call Rick at Islander Marine he can tell you which sizes will clear what dizzies. He has done this more than once. This another of Ricks conversions. Its a 6-71 and you can see the dizzy clears easily. I would think a 8 would clear as well.

The motor in the U TUBE link is one of Rick's. It is the motor at the bottom of the link I posted.

Speakin of blower drives, have you gotten going on your engine yet?
Boat's really lookingt good!
Haven't even got your last shipment yet! No heads + No cam = No power! Haha.

Haven't started the short yet either... Don't want to jump the gun as I need to get the hull finished!

Will actually be coming over to the USA later this year! I have to meet some of you fellas!!

Might swing by Superchargers USA and pick up a 8/71 blower kit while I'm over there.

thanks everyone. looking at it from the rear view,it looks like my offset msd pro mag 20 might clear. i have a mert littlefield mag case 14-71 sitting on the shelf that needs rebuilt. seeing how i have it apart i might set it to drive off the flywheel, and take the 8-71 kuhl off. i guess ill have to get it redynode. trevor

Hey Guys... Not sure if this helps, but here is a picture of my setup that you guys are referring to. The setup will work for a v-drive application as well and will actually be a little easier given the fact that the drive line will not have to go through the bottom blower pulley.

I ran a BDS Competition manifold which gave me a couple extra inches of height. The intercooler adds another 4 inches which allowed me to clear the distributor with ease. Here are a few pictures (don't mind the uncut spark plug wires :wink2:). We were able to build an adapter and dyno the motor with no problems whatsoever. Let me know if you have any other questions
