So how do you decide if your engine needs a 4-71, 6-71, etc. Also is it more efficient to put a taller gear on a smaller blower or a bigger blower and a smaller gear?

well its an air pump - How much air can your engine handle?
Smaller displacment blower safe for conservitive applications I-e the weiland style 142 -177 with stock compression

mild /conservitive 250/ 4-71
cam/ pistons

performance 420/6-71/8-71/and above

crank/ rods / pistons / cam ect ect .

X2 Thats the way to go

This setup heats up the air less which is a hp killer and detonation promoter.

Its also.... big surprise.... more expensive.
