Senario:

Boat bought in CA from a CA resident. Boat is currently registered in AZ by a non CA resident. I would like to keep the boat registered in AZ.

What do I do? I did hear that non AZ resident fees are more expensive.. is this true?

Do I contact the DMV or fish and game?

Thanks

Go to the AZ boaters web site and they will have all the fees listed. I don't have a link.....

Yes, the fees are more but you avoid the CA taxes if the boat is used in AZ 51% of the time. You may have a problem if your going to store the boat in CA. If they see the boat in Ca the tax man will send you a friendly notice. Check the fees and find out what the taxes are, then decide.

I'll keep storing the Ultra in Upland, but I think Ill keep the new boat at the river. My ins will be much less in AZ, and I pay through the butt for ins and taxes on the ultra in CA.

The trailer is registered CA. Should I change it to AZ? Does AZ do the perm trailer like CA does?

if you register the trailer in az you can get perm tags, but also you can request the small motercycle sized plates, they don't get banged up as easy

I would change the trailer to AZ..

For the boat:
http://www.azgfd.gov/outdoor_recreation/boating.shtml

The legislature has established a new flat fee for watercraft registration as
follows:
Resident
0 to 12 ft. $20.00
12 ft. 1 in. to 16 ft. $22.00
16 ft. 1 in. to 20 ft. $30.00
20 ft. 1 in. to 26 ft. $35.00
26 ft. 1 in. to 39 ft. $39.00
39 ft. 1 in. to 64 ft. $44.00
64 ft. 1 in. and over $66.00

Non-Resident
0 to 12 ft. $100.00
12 ft. 1 in. to 16 ft. $110.00
16 ft. 1 in. to 20 ft. $222.00
20 ft. 1 in. to 26 ft. $259.00
26 ft. 1 in. to 39 ft. $292.00
39 ft. 1 in. to 64 ft. $330.00
64 ft. 1 in. and over $495.00

For the trailer:
go to Arizona MVD....

yep, contact fish and game...

non resident in AZ is still less than CA registration.

resident registration is less than non resident for AZ (i think mine is $35/yr).

check into it, but as stated by someone else, you may need to keep your trailer tags in CA since you are storing boat in CA and traveling on CA highways.

I registered my boat in AZ and my Trailer in CA. The person who recommended that I do this told me that since I live in CA the chance of getting pulled over with a trailer registered in AZ is more than if it is registered in CA. So thats what I did.

Love that dmv crap

Does it cost more to register in AZ? How long does it take to get the plates?

FIRST OF ALL, HAVE MY FRIEND NEIL (sdpm) GET YOU A PLACE IN LINE AT DMV "joke"

I THINK MY PERM. PLATE WAS $65, YOU GET THE PLATE WHEN YOU REG. COMING FROM CALIF YOUR GOING TO DO THE INSPECTION THING, MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR ID #s ARE, THE BEST TIME IS TUES OR THURS DONT TRY TO BE THE FIRST ONE THERE, GO ABOUT 8 OR 9, THE EARLY RUSH IS OVER BY THEN

If your tow vehicle is reg in calif you should reg your trailer there also there have been quite a few threads on this same topic and calif highway patrol really look for exactly that the calif plate on your tow vehicle proves that you are a calif res. best of luck!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

its not registration that kills you in cali its the luxury tax from the county that you live in. usally 1% of value the good thing about that is that every year it goes down i've had my boat for 4 years and my first luxury tax bill was almost 600 last year i paid 4 sumthin. the registration is only like 50 bucks for the sticker and a perm trailer is 26 bucks i think good for every 5 years. two more years and my luxury tax will be less that az non resident which will never decrease but will prob increase if state needs money. there are def pros and cons to both
