Northridge Girl, 15, Killed In Boating Accident

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. A Northridge woman was killed Saturday in a boating collision on the Colorado River, authorities said.

Lauren Taguchi, 15, was on a boat that crashed nearly head-on into another boat at about 11:30 a.m. near Riverside County's McIntyre Park, Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. Ned Hyduke said.

The other boat was piloted by Ricky Scott Ledford of Las Vegas.

Ledford helped Taguchi to shore, but she was not responsive when deputies arrived at the park boat ramp, Hyduke said.

Taguchi was declared dead at Palo Verde Hospital.

Both vessels were towed and stored and the crash is under investigation.

Anyone with information about the accident can contact the Riverside Sheriff's Department's Colorado River Station at (760) 921-7900.

lauren taguchi was one of my best friends, she was 15 1/5 years old. what had happen was that the man went off a wave and didnt see lauren had stopped and as he tried to swerve away from her, he actually ended up hitting her in the head and chest instead with his jetski. My other best friends lauren cebulak and rebecca wood were also there and they saw the incident and the man, rebecca, and lauren paddled lauren to shore. When they pulled her out of the water she was unconcious because the jetski had hit her in the head and when they called emergencia and rushed her to the hospital she died on the way there. The doctors did a biopsy on lauren and discovered that the jetski hit her so hard in the chest that it caused a main artery in heart to rupture and there was no way to save her even if they got to the hospital in time.

i just wanted to let you know the facts

You know what sucks... at least where i go. The river police seam to always be chasing down boats, especially the smaller boats with OT headers and giving them a ton of crap, but i rarely ever see them pulling over people riding wave runners. These guys don't pay attention, they cross back and forth across the river only watching the wave they want to jump, they drive too close to and behind boats, and they especially drive too close to boats towing kids. Now i realize I'm making a stereo type but seriously over half the people riding these things do it.

It sucks when sombody, expecially sombody young, gets hurt because of some idiot who was not paying attention like he should have been.

Very sad. But, she was only 15 and not of legal age to be riding any watercraft. This is going to get real ugly for alot of people.

I have been going to McIntrye for about 15 years. The girls friends involved in the accident were on the south side of us in the cove that weekend. The guy that hit the girl was part of the 452nd Civil Engineers that were to the north of us in the cove. I'm not sure if he is military or just a friend of the group but when he left after everything he came down to their canopy to say goodbye.

Girl was adorable and was such a hard thing to fathom seeing her on the launch ramp. Looking at the Jet Ski she was riding it looked like she was hit from either the front or behind. The rear left side of the ski was damaged along with the left part of the steering control. No matter if he came from the front or the back you could tell that she would have been hit really hard.

So sad and made me realize how precious life is. The worst part was that her family was not even there she was staying as a guest. I can't imagine the pain the guy involved in the accident is going through.

Let it be a reminder to all those who ride jet ski's that they need to give each other a wide birth, these things are toys but they can kill you in a fraction of a second.
