I bought this bowl out of the spam section, it was listed as a Berkeley bowl but I don't think it's a Berkeley. I think it's a newer style Dominator. It has no holes for grease zerks and the bowl's output is "extended" looking like the Dominator's. I have an old style Dominator on my boat now with the smaller output on it, this bowl has the same sized output Berkeley bowls have. I think I scored on it. :)devil

What bowl is in the pics? Thanks!

The bowl is an off the 'shelfer' in that it hasn't had any work done on it to make it flow the way it can be made to flow. The bowl could well have been purchased originally straight from AMT who leaves bowl prep work to the jet "guru's" ... not saying anything bad about it, just pointing out that you could get a lot more out of it by having someone knowledgeable do some flow work on it.

Based on the pics it looks like the inlet side vanes need a little work. They look kinda beat up in the pic. It might just be the picture, but it def. looks like it's pushed a few rocks. Other than that it looks great. You def. scored!:D

That's good to know, thanks for the input.

I have no idea yet, I didn't think it would be a problem. I'll be going from the old style Dominator to the newer style, I guess it depends on the year the replacement bowl was made???

I'm told you can machine, clock your bowl 1/8th of a turn and have the holes redrilled to run the newer suction housings, wonder if it is true in reverse... re drill the bowl for use on an older suction. The bolt patterns are 9 1/4 and 9 1/2.

Hawiian jet.... the inlet vanes are like this from AMT....ear shaped and are rather thick on the inlet. There is plenty of meat there for custom shaping, grinding to achive desired results.

Yes, the 10 1/2" bolt pattern bowls can be clocked 1/8th turn and redrilled to 10 1/4" hole pattern. They will bolt on then. But, If you are running a lot of HP, the register of the suction housing will no longer be up against the inside of the bowl for support and the bowl can chatter on the suction housing. Just the bolts by themselves are not enough support. Things can get nasty. That register is on the suction housing for a purpose. It locks the bowl in place. Not to worry though under 700 or so HP.

old vs. new

I just measured the bowl's bolt pattern and it's 10 1/2". :)st

I'm not interested in making the bowl weaker by redrilling it. So I guess it sounds like if I want to run this bowl and not redrill it I need to run a newer style suction housing. Will a newer style suction housing bolt up to my old intake?

Am I going to gain anything by using this bowl and the newer style suction housing vs. just having the existing old style Dominator bowl opened up?

Thanks!

I wasn't sure. From the picture it looked like there were ding marks on the vanes.

Lots of good information here. I'm learning a lot.:D

It looks like a Dominator Jacuzzi YJ conversion bowl. If so it has a small O.D. so the walls are pretty thin.

I have seen an indexing ring to adapt the new bowl to the old suction.

You are right DJG. I didn't catch that water outlet hole between the bolt holes on the left side of that picture. That bowl is really not much good for anything other than repairing an energized pump.
