What kind of bowl pressures are some of you seeing? What is a good range to try to adjust the hardware for? How much is too much? How much is too little?

Any info would help. Thanks!

intake pressure is what you'll wanna be watching, not bowl pressure;) put taps at 2 oclock and 5 oclock on the intake housing about 1/2 inch in frt of the wearing.

Interesting, How much pressure difference do you typically see between the two positions. I have just always done the one at 2 or 3 o'clock. And then what does the difference in pressure actually tell you... explain more please.

It will give you the difference in what the top and bottom are reading. Then you adjust the shoe and loader to try and get both to read the same. Not very likely you will be able to do that, but close counts. It basiclly tells you that its loading the impellor the same on top as the bottom.

What pressures are a good number to shoot for? 60 psi? 80 psi? 100+psi?
Sometimes we are tone deaf. Different boat's like different pressure. You didn't say what kind of boat you have.

My CP-19 I was told by the pump expert that 40 psi is good, 50 is better and if I can get it to 60 psi without anything squirrelly happening that would be good.

It is currently running 28-30 psi and my goal is to get it to 36-40 psi with out dropping the hardware below the keel. It's currently set at 1/16th up.

Blue and CP,

The boat is a Condor TX-19 (heavy lay up). The pump is set in the stock locatin with the hand clean out being half in and half out the transom. We added a "spoon" in front of the intake and it has a tapered shoe that we can shim.

CP--thanks for the numbers!

“In a perfect world” as close to zero pressure would be ideal and also to have all of the impeller with the same amount of water contact. One way to think of it is; the more intake pressure there is the more HP it takes to turn the impeller and the greater the chance the boat wants to lift.
Running a blown fuel jet in the early 90’s, are goal was to run as little intake pressure and as much nozzle pressure as possible (again in a “perfect world”). We ran over 150 three times and those were lowest intake pressure readings ever.
Not only is every boat different, you also have to deal with the change in water and weather conditions. It’s all a compromise, and a lot of testing.

Getreal,

That's interesting.. I wish that concept had worked in my situation.

I got a new impeller, cut it back to gain 600 rpm's. Gained the rpm's, lost 10 psi of intake pressure and 4 mph..... Oh shit. :)st :)st :|err

There were problem's other than the intake psi, but that was one backwards move. I think there were issue's with the new impeller.

the more bowl pressure the better. i'm seeing around 330 psi on a good run.

well i have no idea about bowl pressure, but intake pressure i can relate to.screwed with mine all last summer, had 2 guages run over the back of my boat. that was fun trying to read them at wot, wow, lol!!!!!

anyway i started out having 12 psi and it got worse the faster i went till it cavitated at about 68-69 then it would blow the pump out.tried alot of different things to fix this, till scott seastrum, built me a loader his dad use to build called a c-fang wierd ass sucker anyway.put it in.that gave me 28 at wot and i gained 5 mph.no more cavitation.bingo.then i removed some material in front of my intake and it gave me a steady 32-34 gained 1 mph after that so total i gained 6 plus mph by doing this well worth it.:D

but like they said all boats are different.my pump and boat are not normal.taylor sj with a e-pump.but i like it.later travis:)sphss

More bowl pressure is goping to equal more push foreward. Simple physics.

425psi, holly sheet!!!!!!

Do you think a smaller nozzle would have brought your pressure back up?

It sure could have. Also, you can go too small on a nozzle and do nothing for the ride except build bowl pressure. There is a limit for each size nozzle as to how much water they will process, no matter how much pressure. Above that, you're only building bowl pressure that uses up HP. It's a simple phsysics principal.

I wish I would have thought about that back then......:p

We tried 4 sizes, minimum change, 3 shoe's, 3 shim's for each shoe, two new intake grates. The hardware stated at 1/16th up, pushed it to 1/8th under. Finally gave up and purchased the Legend stainless AA.
