A pal has a mariah b.r. skiboat thats in need of the shift cable boot replaced and i volunteered(gtn payed) to replace it.ive done nothing but glance at it so far and if the cable can be taken loose from outdrive easily it looks pretty simple to replace shifter boot.any tips advise or recommendations?

Yes the cable comes off the bell housing easily, but the boot slides off and on from the other side. You have to pull the drive and disconnect the intermediate shift cable from inside the boat. Everything comes out the back of the boat and then you slide the boot off the cable. I always replace the whole cable assembly at this time since you have it off already. It is not as easy as it looks.

Can the cable not be taken loose inside the boat and pulled outta the transom passthru that boot seals off? or taken loose from where ever it connects on outdrive to replace boot or is there something on end of cable that wont allow boot to be pulled over? Thanx for the help btw, kinda lost on outdrives

Cable is attached inside boat and outside on belhousing or helmet. You have to remove drive and then remove cable at the bellhousing. Disconnect cable from inner shift arm, remove the cable end and slider then pull the cable out of the boat through the hole in back of transom. It's no 5 minute job.
You will also need a alpha gasket kit to re install drive.
