Does anyone know where I can get a couple bushings that go in the steering nozzle without paying Rex Marine $15.00 just for shipping plus the cost of the bushings?

That's good to know. I just ordered some very small lightweight parts from another place, not Rex, and they charged me $9 for shipping and $5 service fee for two items smaller than a fifty cent piece. The line I got was "that's what UPS charged us". I was like take two seconds to place it an envelope and put a stamp on it. That would be customer service. Anyway, last time that place gets my business.:):)punch

So good to know you guys can go between UPS and US Mail...Thanks!!:)devil

We only do US mail on small light stuff that can go in a small padded envelope and that has a low value. If it gets lost it almost impossible to recover from the postal system even with insurance (and not worth the time and effort dealing with them). So the limiting factor is the low value and small size...

We also have a min charge in place on the website because of the time and materials it normally takes to process, pull, double check, pack, ship and invoice orders. It boils down to man hours. For a small order we figured out we were actually losing money on them (when you figure the time for all the above vs the profit in a small order). Multiply that small order scenario by a couple dozen a day and it translates to not making any money for a significant portion of that day. Overhead and labor costs are substantial. This is why most have some type of min. order charge in place. I don't like having to do it but have no choice.

For simple stuff that goes in a padded envelope though we usually will waive that min charge because they are less work.

It's becoming a tough scenario with the freight charges. All the carriers are increasing and increasing their fees due to diesel, jet fuel, and other costs of doing biz. Incoming truck shipments are just killer now. It all trickles down to the consumer and the end product. You see it everywhere. I've got a stack of price increase notices on my desk every week from vendors, increasing this, surcharge on that. Things in stores are more. Food is more. The aluminum billet bars we machine parts out of have gone up 10-15% in the past 2 mo. On heavy parts that takes a toll on the price.

I don't know where it will end. I do know it's becoming very very expensive getting stuff from point A to point B though.

Sorry for the ramble. :p

Steering nozzle bushing

Thanks for turning me on to Tom at Jet Boat Performance. He e-mailed me and is putting them in a envelope and sending me the bushings. Really a nice guy and was very helpful. I have a hydro that I race and I like to do business with people that try to help me. Again thanks

Mail order

I have to agree with Rexone. I use the mail order guys a lot. Herbert, Jegs, Summit, all have a "service" charge, regardless of the size of the order. They proclaim "free shipping", but smack you with the service charge. I questioned it, (of course) and was given the same explanation that Rex used. I have found I can save money by delaying the order until I can order it all at once. One service charge instead of several. I realize we can't always wait, but if nothing else, order extra gaskets, plugs, ARP bolt lube, sae washers, etc etc.....Kinda takes the sting out of a $12.00 service charge on a $6.00 part........Ray

sorry to kind of semi-jacked this thread...

OH I totally agree. I don't mind the service fee part or the minimum order piece, just the shipping piece this other company stuck me with. I made the mistake not knowing the full cost before I gave my credit card info so it was more of a shocker. Anyway, I learned my lesson and will do my business with other better companies that are on here!!! As has been mentioned in other threads over time, I also don't have a problem paying more $$ for an item if I am getting great customer service.

BTW - I am not going to name the company but it was not anyone on this board...
