What heads and valve train?
Just an FYI...flat tappet cams are a real crap shoot these days. I wouldn't install one in a customers engine if they asked me to. This is nothing against Herbert or any other name or brand out there. Just a fact of the industry these days. The risk of one going flat, no matter what precautions you take, is just to high.

As far as the grind, it's probably a little aggressive for a "stock" 454 and an A, running in the 4800-5000rpm range. It would be good with some compression, better exhaust and intake and good valve train.

Heads are cast#6272292, E-brock tram w/2x450s, compression unknown and ot headers. I'll have more info on the motor once I get it apart. The cam is brand new and was given to the owner of the boat. The motor turned 5600rpms at 74mph with no setup work. Lost oil pressure the last time out. Oh the fun of buying a used boat!!

Thanks for the input SC!
