How would this cam work in a mild 468 10:1 comp with iron world oval ports with a air gap and an 850...with logs in a jet boat?

Cam Grind Type:MECHANICAL ROLLER CAMS
Dur Int-Exh: 290/300
Dur @ .050 Int-Exh: 250/260
Lift 1.7 -1.7 Int/Exh: 680/710
Lobe Center: 106
Valve Lash: .022-.025
RPM Range: 3000-7000
Description: Rough Idle,good mid range horsepower,needs 10.5minimum, bracketracing.

Sketchy huh? I dont know all the funky specs, thats why i was asking. The engine came out of a CP and is going in a cruiser. Last owner had no idea of what was in it so the new owner tore into it to at least get the cam grind number. The old owner did no valve maintenece on it either. the lash is at about .042 lol just about double what its calling for.

Anyone have a good used cam that would be more suitable for this engine, or could we send this out and get it reground to something more user friendly for the combo?

Only way to know if a regrind will work is to send it in. The LSA will change considerably to avoid the reversion, so there may or may not be enough material on the lobes..most likely not.

Futz, I have run cams with more duration than that with logs, and over the transom pipes, but you have to dump the water all the way at the end of the exhaust. No water in the exhaust flow until the very very end. No snails, no traps, no nothing. Logs straight to the OT pipes, with the water dumped at the very very end. Anything less, and your in trouble.

It really doesn't matter in this case. the cam is way to big, with way too much duration on too narrow of a LSA for a 10.5 motor. It would be dog.

We ran that much exhaust duration, with a little less intake, and much less lift and on 110 lsa or wider. Do you even have heads to justify the lift of that cam?

That cam wants some pretty serious compression and some good heads with GOOD open header.

As for getting it reground into something different... it would really depend on what core you have to start with to know how much you can move the lobes around. Typically you can go a couple degrees here... a couple there... but starting off at 106... and being pretty dang big for the combo... I'd just save it for somehting else and start off with EXACTLY what you want to make it work instead of trying to compromise with what you got and what would kinda work.

Cam grinding depends on the donor core, but typically its hard to change LSA more than 1.5 degree before running out of lobe. Taking a 106 to a 110 probably isn't a option

OK, so what would be a good solid roller cam choice. He's going to swap it out. Checked the spring presure and its at 240 ish
