Hello there. This is my first V Drive. I picked it up last summer and plan to restore it back to showroom condition over the winter. It's a cool father and son project for my 14 year old son and I. We're totally excited! Only one question (so far), i am just trying to varify what kind of hull it is. According to the title it's a 1964 Sanger/Stevens with Manufacturer listed as Unknown. Hmmm? I am not sure if it's a Sanger or a Stevens but I am inclined to think it's a Stevens. It came with a Hall craft V-Drive, and a the scaggs are stamped with Stevens. Can anyone tell for sure? Any help woud be greatly appreciated. Thank you :)

ps..i have more pics if that would help

You didn't post any photos with your post! I presently own a Stevens and have owned a Sanger in past years, should be able to help you identify which it is!

Looks like a mid-60's Sanger, not sure where the Stevens part with the title fit in as its not a Stevens!!

What are you going to power it with? Good luck with your project!!

Cheers, John

Cool thank you!

John,
Thank you! We're putting a 454 Chevy in it. Nothing too radical to start with, just a bit better than stock and well balanced. How can you tell it's not a Stevens? We're having a lot of fun with all this and I am trying to learn all I can. Maybe when I re-title it I should change it to just read Sanger.
Thank you again!
Terry

ps..What year is your Stevens?

I had a 64 Stevens. It was a wood deck so the dash wasn't the same as your pics, the hull shape doesn't look Stevens. My guess between Stevens/Sanger is .... Sanger

EDIT ... After thinking more about it, all I really remember about my old boat is ... wood deck, wood center deck, bench back to back seats, 427 Ford, white hull with a red metal flake stripe. I really don't remember the shape of the hull enough to make a guess.... Sooooo after looking at pics from other sites I am going to agree with those who say Stevens.

Thank you.

My dad thought it was a Sanger too. He ran one with his little brother back in the 70s. My uncle crashed his (fatally) at Shasta Lake in 1978 racing with some good friends. My Dad built a Kutis Kraft after that which he ran for serveral years. Buiding one of my own has been a lifelong dream, ecspecially since i get to build it with my son. I would have been perfectly happy if it had turned out to be a Stevens, but finding out it's a Sanger just adds to the nostalgia. Thank you again.

Good looking boat! Welcome to the site. Where are you located? Lots of help is available.

Also, get ahold of Superlite on here. His pops was distributor for Sanger in the NW and has a ton of knowledge and experiance with them.

Terry,

The more I look at the lines of your boat I'm not convinced yours is not a Stevens! One, the transom has the same rounded look as the Stevens along with the swooped down dash and straight deck. The top of the boat all the way back is straight with drop down gunnel sides aft of the deck. The paint on your boat is deceiving and can through your eye of of the lines. Don't mean to sound wishy-washy but I'm now thinking yours is a 64' Stevens 17 foot Silhouette!! Mine is a 70' and looks a bit different with three piece molded top cap..............

Post a few more pictures, straight on upper and lower shots along with top of the deck looking forward...........................

John

PS..........Goggle: 1964 Stevens Flatbottom V-drive...........look at the pictures River Dave has posted on his site of the 1964 blue and white Stevens!!

The transom looks a lot like the Stevens. The boat in the original post doesn't have that slightly raised lip along the gunnels and across the transom (from what I can see in the pictures at least...maybe some more closeups from behind and above the transom).

I can't wait to see what the experts come up with. I love these investigation threads.

More pictures

Hi John,
Thank you for taking a second look. I looked at the lines you were talking about and compared them with the River Dave photos. Hopefully these photos will show more the detail we need. The bow on mine seems to have a more pronounced edge to it just before it rises. The gunnels up front seem to a more pronunced dip and rise before they streach down the sides. Not sure if this matters. I hope these shots will help.
Thank you again,

I know...me too! This is fun! The last pics I posted show it doesn't have the lip across the transom, and I'm not sure if it matters but the cavitation plate on this one is adjustable.
