I am interested in perhaps purchasing a Carrera or Force 29 Tunnel for a family lake boat. Does anyone have experience with either of these hulls? I would like to run close to triple digits with enough room in the cockpit and cabin for a small family. Your thoughts and opinions are appreciated, thanks.

That 257 is a gorgeous boat but I'm looking for a little more room in the cockpit and cabin. Has anyone ridden in both the 257/26 vs 29 Carrera/Force tunnels? I'm assuming the smaller boats are easier on the drive but what about handling are they similar or much different? How would these hulls compare to say an Eliminator or DCB in ride quality? Any insight is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My buddy had 2004 29' Force with a 572 Paul Phaff Chevy and top end was 90 mph. He loved it but had to sell to build his house on the river.

Did you ever ride in this boat? Was it safe-predictable handling characteristics? I get mixed opinions on this.

I did ride in his boat at 88 mph. Seemed safe to me. :)sphss I just talked to my buddy and he never had any issues.

I HAD 3.... ONE OPEN BOW AND 2 CANOPYS

the carrera 29' is different than the force, the carrera 29' mold came from force and it
didn't work... force gave it to carrea and tooled a new one...(don't ask how I know)
the force 26 is a copy of the 257 carrera bottom only they stretch'd it a foot in the
middle...

I ran the best of 99 mph in my 29 force with a single 598 carb motor, downside
3 drives in 22 hours.......

I came up on some guys fishing that I thought were mud hens...threw a left hand turn at
90..... I'd never do it again , but it never flipped...

the good and bad about the 29 force...
the bad...the driver sets too far forward
take a lot of speed and power to pack air


the good.. because the driver sets forward;
it planes quicker,rides very stable..

I disagree with Steve the Carrera 29 is the same EXACT bottom as Force. With that said they both work good. Not the fastest bottom but stable at speeds. Mine bottom is a bit different at the back setup for OB. I'm been kicking around the idea of selling my boat and go with a Big Blue more friendly boat. The amount of space in the cockpit is very large. it will run in the low 90's with 2 300x's. Phebus has rode in it after I got it setup properly after Lakeland's hack job. Your boat looks great but I need to hear the sound of a large displacement V8. Outboards are great just not for me, nice boat though.

I hear and my dilemma will be yours. You wanna go fast and you will need CU in a single engine to get there or go 2 engine small blocks only way they'll fit in a 29' Both Force and Carrera are heavy. So to see mid 90's you're going to need around 800-900 HP min to get there. Now you have a drive eater so plan on a minimum of $4-$7K a year for drive repair. Unless you rode in a twin OB don't knock it to you try it.

I'm not knocking it. A twin engine outboard setup in that size of boat makes too much sense! I just grew up boating with a BBC and spending money on a boat that is broken is second nature:)

I know you weren't knocking it :) There is nothing that beats that big block sound.... Well that's until they tell you that you need mufflers and catalytic converter...:D

I'm curious have you ever driven or ridden in a Carrera 29 with a single engine IO? I would be interested in hearing the comparison of your boat and the IO single setup. There is a 2004 29 Carrera in the classifieds right now for 50K with a beautiful big inch blower motor. The boat is priced right and appears to be in good shape.

No I haven't I've only driven the twin engine Scorpion motor 29'. Is this the 29' For Sale you are talking about? If so I can give you some info on that one. Just FYI Carrera didn't build a bunch of 29'.

No the one I'm talking about is in the classified ad section of this website. It has a 588ci motor with a 1071 blower with chiller in front of an IMCO Extreme drive. The engine and boat look great. I really like the cockpit layout and tall access into the cabin in the 29 Carrera. I like to go fast but also have kids and friends that need some room. My budget will not allow me to purchase a large twin engine cat. The Carrera seems like a good value. As long as these hulls don't do anything weird I don't mind giving up speed for room. I would like info on the boat you found as well. Is something wrong with it?

What type of drives were you breaking? Have you ever ridden on a Carrera 29? I remember seeing a Force 26 sitting at a dealership in Madera, CA maybe 4 years ago and was really impressed with the tooling and quality of workmanship. I can't remember the name of the dealer. Anyway thanks for the message. It sounds like drive issues are part of the program with these big HP single engine cats.:)bulb

Can you link me to the ad for the boat you are talking about. The link I posted was the first 29' built so it had some learning curve issues and they changed a few things like adding a fiberglass inner liner unlike that one that was all wood.. My boat and the 29' I drove (Dennis' Carrera's Owners Boat) didn't have any weird handling issues at all and both ran in 90's.

You can't beat the price for sure. I don't know that boat at all or any history? Looks clean though and like I said a great price. Have you talked to the guy? what did he say it ran?
I did talk to the owner. He seems like a straight shooter. He is out of the Sacramento area. He is the second owner of the boat and purchased it from someone who ran it on Lake Havasu I believe. He had the engine rebuilt by a local engine builder and tried numerous props to get some speed out of it. I think he said it will run just over a 100mph now in ideal conditions. The boat has a six blade prop on it! Interesting boat and priced to sell. I like it.
