Well I hit something while in the boat, dog eared my Bravo 1 prop. I put a dial indicator on the propshaft....f0ck it is out of round. I have never replaced a bravo 1X propshaft. I assume you drain the lower unit, take out the bolts on either side of the propshaft, that is where i stop. What goes on from there? What comes out with propshaft? What is reusable? Kind of lubricant what to use, blah blah blah. Part numbers? It is a Bravo 1-X the gear ratio is 1.5 Any help would be great including an inside source for a new propshaft or a good used one. The first thing you will need to order is a Service Manual from a Mercruiser dealer, Part number 90-865612010 - #39 SERVICE MANUAL BRAVO STERNDRIVES.

A good place to look up and order parts from is Bam Marine, Here is a link, Good luck with it.

When you look up the parts, make sure that your drive serial number falls within the serial number range given in the link to help ensure you get the right parts.:)bulb

It's not a pull one out and put another one in type of job. I would recommend having a certified shop do it.

Hey Dave,

Are you sure the dial indicator wasn't just reading a little goofy as you were trying to measure a rotating shaft?

I've bent quite a few props myself, but have NEVER bent a propshaft....

I would try putting a good prop on it and running it out of the water while watching the prop.. you will notice if it's messed up....

If it IS truly bent then just bring it on over with a case of beer... I have a really BIG sledge hammer... :D

Not good on the cone clutch to shift the drive on the trailer with a prop on it. The best way is with a dial indicator. If you can't do that securely, start it, put it in gear with out the prop on, and watch the "center" on the end of the propshaft for run-out.
FWIW Bravo 1 propshafts (not XR) bend easily when hitting something with a ss prop.

I wil put my dial indicator on it again, boatally insane is my neighbor, we wont do anything stupid, i hope, and then if it is truly out of round, which i think it is, i talked to Bob at Full Throttle Marine today and he said he would replace it and check all the goodies for around 2 hours labor plus parts. http://www.fullthrottlemarine.com/
