Somehow that front motor mount is not correct, will have to make a new one. Nobody seems to know where the original is, maybe Al has it, I hope. Note the extra stringer holes for moving pedals around! All filled now! Remember, this boat is 14' long so there is not much cockpit room so everything must be planned out! Whoops, impossible for a jerk! Flailing away am I!sphss

Next to that pint can of thinner, you can barely make out a gray area where the outside turning fin was located similar to the SS400 Jones and the dropped stringer to allow driver to sit lower. I will use a 7" pan to drop the motor one inch lower also. Spent days under that dash working from front to back. Boat had minor crash damage on top, underdeck, and on its left side. Surely this boat was ahead of its time, whenever it actually hit the scene, either 69 or 70 something. Also had movable center plates.

We plan on running a legal SE motor, a 'junk yard dog', and hope to be at Burley for its debut. However, ARE ANY Southern Nostie boats headed there? This little boat had to run Pro stock, Super Stock, then Drag Boat racing when the E class went away, this will never happen to Charlie again!

Thanks to Al Lapoint, many of its original parts have been found and he stated, "its sharp nose was copied by another manufacturer and its creation allowed the too short boat to compete rule wise". I would love to know its race successes if anyone remembers. I do know it had lots of fans and now a good home.

Boyd, if worst comes to worst you can always just cut the "Up" peddle off and just keep the down. I figure that would be cheaper that shipping parts around as it is already in your shop. Of course if someone will trade a nice piece for that baby then you are gold.

That's exactly what I did on my Cougar (tunnel) due to the close quarters left of the stringer. I just cut off the up pedal, capped the stub with a rubber cap, then cut the down pedal horizontal leg and moved that pedal over til it was comfortable and re-welded it. Jocko

Dont tell her, but for the last 2 weeks, I figured the boat needs a new floor, guess it sat outside for a major part of its life judging by all the hornet hives and ugly floors. After injecting more epoxe to cure the stringer delamination, I decided that a 'quick fix' would be to HIDE most defects in a simulated wood grained floor. Well after two solid weeks of fun, it looks slightly different. FIVE-O could post some shots later.

Has anyone come to the realization like my pea brain just did, that this engine, light boat, slow speed, could just possibly produce some of the best ECONOMIZING ever? I used to consume 3 gallons of GOOD GAS every heat with Big Block, or app 15 gallons per weekend plus tow vehicles multiple tanks! This just may be cut in half, especially with the current stock 350 and Holley Ecomomizer 450 cfm carb drinking pump gas!

Now, sporting nothing but USED hardware, on a lighter single axle trailer, (correct tire pressure) and AMSOIL slippery products and WELLA: BUDGET RACING anyone can afford (even on unemployment)!!!!!

And the class should be called: SPEC (for engine specifications, or STOCK) and 'E' (for replicating the long gone class). Who is the Genius who called it the other??? idiots...surrounded by them!

No wonder

I was so intent to add more patriotic symbols to this boat and now I have a reason:
Charging Charlie Moonbeam 69-70
And, this boat was built in 1969-1070!

There is also a peom entitled, "the Legend of Chargin Charley". Must reprint this in vinyl. As I type this the driver is hard at it with epoxe to attach 108 red white and blue stars to the new floor.

Stars are still awaiting epoxe setting at the chines on the new black enamel. Stringers are as good as I can make them look, structurally, big improvement

Appreciate your comments, it was difficult deciding what to do with respect to making a pigs ear look pretty for the Blonde. And if anyone has worked with West Systems, you know how long it takes before you can touch or step on the stuff. Yesterday I started drilling holes to mount the hardware....Whoopee! Now, pressures on to not screw up! Oh, the blue tape is plugging the final liquid filler that plugs the needle injection hole that saved the stringers. Kinda feel like a Doctor of Delam.....

You can see the color change above and around the tape which is the new resin bonding loose glass. Forced from below with a vet 2 oz syringe, its interesting to watch it spread into the cavity. Then the clamps and 2X4s squease and spread it flat again. I figured this area needed strength with the cav lock handle mounted into the 4 holes and of course the dropped driver seat area.

Today is Casale tear up, have to rob gears from the Shark for Charley. Guess I'll start with 15s with its small prop and low reving stocker. Might hit 70

Another challenge is polishing the rusty chrome hardware before install.
