City to keep Windsor Beach open and FREE

I thought you all would like to know that the Windsor Beach park and launch facilities will remain open under the control of Lake Havasu City as other state parks likely close tomorrow. This of course is because our state legislature and our Governor cannot seem to agree on a state budget and the end of the fiscal year is midnight tonight.

Because Windsor Beach State Park is critical to boating in Lake Havasu City, we have worked out an agreement with the state that will allow the park to remain open under the city's control and using volunteers from the LHC Marine Association and city personnel.

The good news is that during the period when the city is operating the park, there will be NO FEES charged at the gate. Al we ask is that everyone understand the situation and exercise patience at the ramp and in the parking lot.

Thats good news for the holiday weekend and the free admission is even better.
I guess that's good news. Why does the city follow all the same rules ang reg's as the State as well as charging the same rates and using that 15-20K for docks or other needed improvements.
if word gets out fast about FREE launching that place is gonna be a bigger mad house than it already is. i cant believe the state is closing/giving up on one of the busiest launch's on the Colorado river if the city would not have taken over, i wonder how many of us would pay more to launch to keep it open. its about money and the state not wanting to pay ranger bob and ranger sue's salary. that place is busy enough for the incoming funds to cover hourly wages. and the city/marine association should pay for up keep of the docks. sell advertising space around the docks to raise money why wouldn't that work??? or maybe still charge while city takes over and use the money collected to upgrade some stuff around the faclity. im sure the money would disapear into some local polititians pocket though. politics suck...

+1 :|err
Does this affect local lakes at all, im getting diffrent stories, like no police there or restrooms open......
my guess is, that this is not gonna work out so well... wow, what a bummer... and the state just put a sign up that said they were gonna be doing some construction and dock upgrades... my guess was and is again, that is prolly on hold again even after promises have been made and money had been raised / donated. More slush funds making money in an undisclosed account someplace for someone...

Charlie, thanks for the heads up, please continue to keep us posted and let us know if letters or anything will help...

Just Renewed mine also and I think it Sucks to. I think they should charge everyone without a pass Double and put the money towards the Docks also. I Hope the word does'nt get out.

Maybe they can just reserve the overflow parking just for pass holders:)devil
Maybe I should get a 3 day pass at the Marina
Kudos to Lake Havasu City for stepping up to the plate and taking care of business. I realize it is in their best interest but none the less thanks for taking control of a situation that could have put a strain on the visitors and local boaters this holiday weekend.
Looks like Cat Tail Cove is going to be closed - Fuuk

Three State Parks Will Be Open, 27 Other Parks Close at Midnight Due to Budget Impasse
(Phoenix, AZ — June 30, 2009) – The Arizona State Parks department will begin to ask campers to leave 13 State Parks' campgrounds at 4 pm today in order to close down the parks before the midnight deadline for closing all the State Parks. Parks will be closed and not reopen until the department has operating authority.

In order to reduce the economic impact for two rural communities, the Arizona State Parks department staff have signed special use applications with the City of Show Low and the City of Lake Havasu. These agreements would allow each City to operate, monitor, maintain and control the parks. Show Low's Fool Hollow Lake State Recreation Area and Lake Havasu State Park (day use only, no camping) will operate under these special use agreements through July 5th or will end when the State Parks' budget is authorized. Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park is also open.

These permits would include the legal and safe parking of all visitors, use and function of the launch ramps, access and maintenance of the restroom facilities, trash pickup, emergency medical response and public safety. The agreements begin at midnight on June 30 until July 5th.

If there is no operating budget by July 1, 2009, Kartchner Caverns State Park and most other parks will be closed and all Camping Cabin and site reservations, and all cave tours will be cancelled, rescheduled or refunded.

For more information about the 30 State Parks, other hiking opportunities such as hiking all the 550 State Trails, off-highway vehicle trails and other outdoor recreational and cultural opportunities in Arizona, see the website at the Arizona State Parks department at AZStateParks.com or call (602) 542-4174.

Are you kidding me!!! If the state did close Windsor it wouldn't matter if you had a pass, it would be closed and your pass would be worthless during this time.

Does this mean that the Windsor personnel will be getting paid to stay home until the budget situation is resolved. If so, it seems that as a gesture of having a job for the State Park sys. they should be volunteering their time as well to keep the park open. My guess is that the will be paid retro actively from when the park was closed. Please tell me that I'm wrong about this and that this is not just another free ride given to State workers.
Nice, I like getting up @ 4 AM when I am on vacation......

I took the post as "Free during the budget crisis" (AKA POS AZ legislature can't do their job). Hats off to LHC for doing this but why not collect revenue on one of the busiest weekends? Don't tell me it would be too much to figure out for the state.

Windsor the new site six. :D
