A Whittier man swimming in the Colorado River this weekend lost consciousness and later died at a hospital, coroner's officials said. Joel Arreola, 40, was with his family and friends around 5 p.m. Sunday when he began having difficulty swimming in the river and called for help.
Arreola was pulled to shore and someone began performing CPR on him. Paramedics were called at 5:08 p.m. He was taken to the Colorado River Medical Center in Needles where he died at 5:55 p.m.

Damn that sucks. Wonder if he had a heart attack or other medical condition.

My family and my self were on the beach about 10 min before this happened. Went up to the trailer to start dinner and heard the ambulance. The wife went back down to the beach to see what was going on and found paramedics doing cpr on the gentlemen. We had heard that he passed away, but did know til I read this. Very very sad, his family obviously was very distraught.
