Hey guys. I'm switching up one of our boats to a more family friendly boat and have picked up some Hardin Marine logs. Looking at the alignment of where the hose wants to point from the logs to the transom it looks like the tips will need to be a ways down on the transom.

Question to the gang....... do I need to be concerned with the tips being too low in the water at rest/anchor/idle?

It's my 18' Brendella that looks just like a splash of a 18' Southwind. Motor has been changed to a mild single 4 BBC cruiser motor. No big cam.

ps... Here's a shot with the old motor. Assuming that the motor would set similar in the water, with the tips aligned directly with the logs it puts the the top of the tip even with the top of the bowl. What height do the tips need to be at while the boat is as "rest"?

If you have the snails to go with em....no worries. Mine sit under water. If your going with a stainless tip, You will need the internal butterfly. The more common aluminum has either small flappers just inside or a big flapper with a hose clamp on the outside. I have a couple pics of both.

hey there buddy:)hand On my tahiti the tips sit halfway above the bowl when in the water anchored which makes them half in the water and half out...but looking at the picture your might have to be lower than that. I would think as long as theres flappers in them and snails that would be fine.....kinda like farting in the bath tub... But what do I know Im still on the learning curve....alot of what I have seen is the top of the tips aligned with the top of the bowl

Just line the tips up with the logs/manifolds,, the flapper and/or snail will prevent the water from reaching the engine

It is really not critical what level the tips come out of the boat, other than the pitch of the exhaust should always flow down to the tip.

The real critical part to watch is that the riser (snail) is high enough in the boat to prevent water from running back into the engine while the boat is at rest. And as mentioned the flappers are important to keep surges from waves from forcing water back into the engine.

If i were to do this I would look for a set of center riser manifolds, not the traditional logs. Center riser manifolds are available in aluminum and cast iron for a pretty reasonable cost and have less flow restriction than the traditional log/snail combo. If you want a better flowing exhaust there are upgrades like the EMI Thunder and Stainless marine center riser set ups.

Actually, A buddy of mine has done just this and its not as bad as I thought it would be, I think I have a pic I will look for.

LOL Todd. Blower motor is in my sons Sanger now. This boat just has a little bitty single 4bbl motor in it now.

I know the rubber hose helps out quite a bit with alignment with the tips, I would hunt for a set of Lightnings or some other performance header, no sense in losing power if you dont have to!
This boat runs pretty good! and is a 100% family boat!

That lil shaver in the life jacket is exactly the reason I'm mixing our boats up. I wanna get the grandkids involved and that blower belt scared me.
