Berkeley JG pump in a 21' daytona and a constant stream of water into the engine compartment. I'm gunna go ahead and say its the pump packings... doubt they have ever been changed.

Anyone have any insight regarding this procedure? Engine is 3 point mounted also, will this change anything about the process?

Not easy but very doable and i too have a 3-point mount. Spray the shaft/rings with WD40 then you use a long thin sheetrock screw to bite into the first packing ring >pliers on the end of the screw to pull it out. Spray WD40 again and repeat process...once the WD40 gets working >I've actually used a dental pick to get them out too.
Clean the inside as best you can and reinstall the new packing rings > MAKE sure to STAGGER the new packing ring joints. either 12+6 or 3+9 o-clock.
I use GORE GFO fiber packing rings ("virtually dripless") >they're actually square 5/16"

What are these packing rings you speak of?:)sphss I tried to click on the highlighted portion of your post and no dice. To the op...I had a pretty good leaker going once...turned out one of the 2 bolts on the packing gland retainer rattled out....or I should say the nut rattled off the end of it. I have redone mine a few times. Its not bad when I am just cruising...but when I am in the throttle it seems to leak pretty good.

i had this problem too. Cruising along no problem. But when I hit the go pedal that sumbitch would alow the water to just squirt in. I bought a seal from Duane, Shaft Seal I believe. Problem solved. I had the new shaft seal in my tool box till I had to remove the motor to install a new pump thrust bearing. I added the seal to the pump at that time. Now when I mash the gas i dont get that rush of water into the boat thru the seal.

Well worth the trouble of removing the engine.
