I purchased a 10-71 mooneyham blower (built by wrightway blower service) off ebay on Jan 29, 2011. The ad said new billet end plates, new teflon strips, new bearings and seal and new anodizing. Listed in good condition.

In August after finally assembling my motor and putting it in the boat I realized that my mooneyham billet carb adapter would not bolt to the blower! The holes were 1/16 off in every direction. Then I realized the anodizing on the top of the blower was covering up the welding on the case to make it a standard opening blower!

The ebay ad did not say the blower had inserts, and it did not say the case had been welded!

I should have filled a complaint to ebay right then. But being a nice guy I did not want to put a bad mark on WrightWays ebay account.

I called the shop and told Greg Wright that I had to drill a KUHL carb adapter and only use the outside 4 bolt to get my boat on the lake. I then had to change my carb linkage, and could not use my billet are cleaner assebly because the KUHL adapter spacing is different.

I asked for the top of my blower to be fixed at the end of the season. Greg agreed to fix it.

After spending $160 to ship it there and back, $250 new stripping (after only 6 hours of use there was 2 inch strip missing) Wright way blower service assured me my blower was fixed.

Let me ask all of you....DOES THIS BLOWER LOOK FIXED?????

The threads in the front right hole only go 180 degrees around the hole. The top of the case near the middle insert is cheese graded with a die grinder and was covered with black silicon!!!
On top of all this my carb adapter still does not fit!

I called Wright Way blower service to complain and requested a full refund for the blower and I was told no way. Greg Wright told me to ship it back down there so he could weld all the holes and redrill but that I would have to pay for labor and reanodizing the blower!!!! If this was your blower would you send it back?

i hate dishonest people/businesses..... i dont think that i would send it back AND pay for the other too.
the LEAST they could do is fix it and they should take care of shipping. anyways i would file a complaint with the BBB.
just my .02 cents

I used Greg once for a restrip on an 8-71 and it came out OK, but the above example is an abortion. It was a year or so ago when I was there and he works out of his garage; just a small operation. That should be all the more reason, IMHO, that he just swap out the case and make this customer whole.

Word gets around fast, eh?

I know it seems obvious now. But this guy runs a blower service shop and has an ebay business!

At that time i thought it was safer to buy off of ebay vs the forums because at least then I had ebay and paypal protection.....im a dummy!
I don't think EBay is the issue; this is 2012! You and I, along with millions of others buy quality products off EBay, new and used, every year. Holley sells off EBay, as do many legitimate businesses. Many small businesses start out in the owners garage, so I mentioned that because small businesses live or die on their reputation and do not have the volume to dissapoint/lose ANY customer...

The point is Greg Wright has an ongoing business and still needs to protect his reputation.

You might consider, at this point, taking the blower to a local guy and having it inspected so you have information from an unbiased 3rd party.

Jr at RBS is a great guy,I try to send him work, but his backlog usually makes him take a little too long. I went to Littlefield last time and got great service, great price, and he did it one day while I was in town. Cant say enough good things about them..

I bought my motor from Greg wright and got a very good deal. He knows what he's doing but I also had just a bad experience with the guy. Gave him half the money up front and said I'll give you the rest after I hear it run. Had to have carbs built and get my magneto rebuilt and serviced which takes time. Got real shitty after a week and started bitching about the rest of his money. Long story short i was told in the beginning he'd throw in a set of headers and never got them. He offered to set up all the linkage and fuel lines then ends up charging me for something i could have easily done. Took the nice valve cover gaskets off it when I first looked at it and put some cheap ass cork ones on. Destroyed the plug wires and cut them way to short and basically said yeah you're going to need new plug wires. The guy usually does good work but definitely wasn't my best experience doing business with someone.

Good luck with your blower. I'd take it to littlefield though.
Never assume anything. Through everything on the table. Keep reminding them so they can't change up on you. I have had a few encounters like that. You think it's one thing then when it's done they through a curve ball iggers just want to get in ur pockets. Dot the I and cross the t's

Yeah I learned my lesson the hard way. Just got real sick of the whole situation and couldn't wait to just hear it run and pay him and be done with it. He built a buddy of mines blower motor that's lasted 10+ years with no major problems so just hoping mine is the same. Don't want to have any other problems with the guy. Enough said about that lol.

Littlefield might help you out and give you a good price since they aren't too fond of wright. He used to work for them back in the day. They are very helpful with great service.
Thank you for the info. Littlefield quoted $1,200 to r&r the case. I like those guys too. Ive never had a problem ording from them.

Whiskey, send your stuff to Erik at The Blower Shop. We run only their Blowers on our TAF and the K boats I race. Great people and even better service. Plus, they are in Simi Valley which is only a few hours from you.
