My Rogers had steps when I got it and they were in pretty rough shape. Not to mention that they were a bit on the cheesy side and replacing them with some Dana billets was always on my list of things to do. But now, I'm not too sure. Finally got the boat back from Kornowskis in Havasu. I had the radio hole in the dash filled and the thru transom exhaust holes as well and he automatically filled in all the swim step holes. I think that the boat looks amazing w/o all that crap hanging off the transom. The signature shape of the back of the boat is a lot more apparent now. My wife likes the steps and wants me to put some back on but I'm hesitant. What do you guys/gals think. Yay or nay? I may decide to sell the boat in 2 or 3 years and I don't want to decrease the value by adding steps.

Over the transom pipes and swim steps go together like spaghetti and grape jelly.

Don't do it.

if it was a 19',20' Mini, or a full grown Day Cruiser steps would be a natural like step bars on and SUV for sure but agree with the others (Spagetti and Grape :))eek:))) , put a some grip tape on top the jet bowl for a "step" and warn about the Hot Headers Tom

Actually, all last summer we never used the steps to get into the boat. We always got in/out via the sides. We used the steps mainly to sit on while the boat was up on the sand.

having swim steps makes people WANT to try to walk thru a jungle gym open engine bay... after my gf lost her balance and burned herself i put a little flip up hook onto the gunnel area and i use one of these for people to get in/out of the boat in the middle of the lake. makes it a hell of a lot easier and a LOT safer than climbing over a hot engine.

she wanted swimsteps before, and i was like "ehhhhh..." now she wont even go near the back of the boat.

Help your wife get up and in the side of the boat if you have to, or post up near the shore. No way I would be cutting up the transom with anything, if I just had all that work done. Its a jet boat, not a 23' MasterCraft X-Star. Looks real good by the way.

I wouldn't hesitate to put em on my tona......as long as they were a nice billet type. Its your boat/your call. Last time I watched one of those vids from up north...seemed like half those guys had a mountain high motor....and swim steps. I am just to poor to float a set to the top of my todo list.:)grn If everyone like the same shit/had the same taste it would be pretty boring.lol

LOL... thanks Eric...how about this oneLooks like crap too huh...
:stir:getting a little off topic, since the OP mentioned (certain boats)
That picture is a little misleading. I think if you show a picture of the whole boat you'll notice a big difference. Your boat doesn't fall into the certain category. I have swim steps on my boat and they are staying on. I am slowly working my way to the 21'-22' Daytona or DCB. One day.

Ask the person you sell your boat to in 3 or 4 years, for now who cares. Its like anything else, nice product & install won't hurt value.

Red Beard, etc., I definately understand your thoughts on swim steps and tell you that I think and have thought much the same. However, sometimes there is an exception where spaghetti and grape jelly don't taste so bad. Now, I would not put steps on my Daytona or TX-20, but my wife has a Sunkist Performer 18' Gullwing and she wanted them. As a woman knows what she wants and she wanted an easier way to get into the boat from the lake, thus a pair of billet swim steps. Now in the first pic, static in the water they are barely noticeable, more like shadows just under the water line. Running, they are well out of the water as in the second pic.

She has been around boats and headers long enough to know how to watch and avoid them as well as checking to see if they are hot. these are ceramic coated and really cool off quicker than one would think, especially if you shoot the water to them pretty good when coming into the bank. And... I have been married to her for over thirty five years and know a good thing when I have one.

So, sometimes there may be a good time for the jelly.

BUT A BIMINI TOP ON MY PERFORMANCE JETBOAT.... NO THANKS! And you know who I am talking about:) One of your own West Coast 8 second racers had a bimini top on his Daytona. I can tell you all the holes have been filled and the hull has been repainted.... no more bimini or swim steps on this boat:) :) :)
