You got it!

So Forkin, in the "Don't Hire Mexicans Thread" you posted.
Quote:
I went to Wally World and I couldn't tell if it looked more like Africa or Mexico
Explain that on to us would you.

To the rest of us, it leads us to believe that you just don't like to be around anyone that's not of your race. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that kind of comment had nothing to do to a thread debating "illegal immigrant problems". That statement had more of an intolerance of other races besides your own. I would presume that by the mention of "Africa", you were refering to Black folks. The debate was towards Hispanic undocumented labor. What did the mention of "Africa or Black folks" have anything to do with the previously mentioned debate other than your intolerance to be around them as well as Hispanics or "Mexicans" as you put it. Enlighten us would you.......
You bet I can explain it. If that leads you to think like that, then it is pure speculation. No it had nothing to do with the thread. Is there some rule that you have to do that? Yes, black as in “African American”. They named themselves that, not me. What I was referring to is there was just about as many blacks as there are non-English speaking Mexicans here. As used for comparison. The blacks here out number the whites roughly 2 to 1. So that would make for a lot of Mexicans, wouldn’t it?

What are you trying to do? Pull the race card on me? Nice try at making me look racist.

Lue I believe Info missed your post and I won't attempt to respond for him but here is my .02 on your question, which I see has been responded to now anyway.

The continuation of a series of threads revolving around the subject of racism have no upside on these forums. They always turn out badly and someone is always pissed off and there are many who dislike the content even being present. The content just isn't what pb was created for (boating and fun stuff). The bottom line is no matter how much you debate with someone about the subject of racism on the internet, nothing in the world changes because of it. Just a few members become polarized and angry posting about it and it serves no meaningful purpose and the forum in general gets a bad rap for allowing it. I think it is a subject that is a hair trigger for many and is best left to forums that thrive on these types of very controversial and hot button subjects.

The main thread that I locked and moved was getting out of control and disrespectful between members (not acceptable) even following my initial warning. The other threads that spawned (which is typical) are viewed by moderators as continuations of the same topic, thus they get killed also because we do not want the content just continuing from thread to thread. If we did, we would not lock the first one. I always find it interesting that folks just start another thread after something obviously got locked by a moderator due to inappropriate content of some sort. There are many forums out there where if members ignore a moderator they are just flat out banned. We don't do that here but conversely we expect our members to respect the moderator's warnings and handling of threads. We rarely edit or delete anything either unless it is slanderous or highly offensive in nature, hence the threads get locked for viewing and filed away in the archives of gws. My whole point is when a topic or thread is killed, it should be a warning in and of itself that the content should not be continued in a new thread. That, I am guessing is Info's reason for killing it.

I fully understand your message here Mike. But it's like you said, it gives the forum a bad wrap. However, it is always the same heads always posting controversial posts (to put that lightly) when any kind of this debate arises. Yet, these guys are allowed to continue. I have some serious conflict in continuing to support PB magazine as a result. I along with several other board members find it highly disrespectful. If you compare my post count here to RDP and even RC who probably gets 2% of the traffic this place sees, you will see that it's much higher there. I know you don't own the boards here Mike and I'm not expecting anything from this conversation, but I will say that what is allowed here, is fairly unwelcoming to some folks. I think we can both agree that this a problem. If I was an advertising customer, I would not feel good about paying for your services after reading some of these threads. Those are my .02

there are very many people angry with todays society. therfore they speak their minds...
is there anything wrong with that?
if people are so mad about it, maybe the Political Rhetoric section should be removed.
after all... this is a BOAT FORUM!!!

Lue I will agree, I don't like the disrespectful stuff. Moderating what people post is a double edged sword though. On the one side people would like to see content and members removed. On the opposite side as soon as something is removed we are called out with the censorship card. So as you see there is no way to satisfy everyone all of the time. As far as other forums I believe they all have these same issues (choices) and the larger they become the more of them they have as more members join with more diverse views on things. I don't mind different views and perspectives, in fact I think it makes for good discussion. What I do mind is disrespectful or threatening posts between members and members arguing and bickering with each other, throwing f bombs etc.. As said above we are not big fans of banning members although a few have been that just refuse continually to respect any type of warning. I'm sorry you feel you can't support pb magazine due to the propensity of some members posting content we as moderators have limited control over without employing excessive censoring and / or banning. There are advantages to strict forum content allowances and disadvantages as well. So far we have been instructed to stay on the less strict side of the fence when possible and within reason and let members guide the course of conversation and topics.

I locked the other thread for the name calling. It was getting out of hand.

I very rarely edit a post. I did recently in the jet section. A guy just flat out verbally attacked a paying advertiser. His post adding nothing to the discussion. I PM'd him to go back and edit the post. He didnt so I did it for him. But that is a rare instance.

He mouthed me pretty hard via PM lol :D I'm a spinless jellyfish apparently

This discussion turned into angry name calling and threats. If the genitals heavy drinkin and deer hunting turned ugly, it would be handled the same.

Don't think the subject is why it gets locked. It is the actions during the discussion. It's just easier for some subjects to turn ugly than others. So those subjects will have more moderator interaction than others.
