I have a DPS inducer and the first time putting it on it was very hard to get onto the shaft. Now i'm pulling it off and i'm having to heat the inducer to get it to move, i almost got it off but i'm curious how this thing is suppose to go onto the shaft. My guess is that it should slide on as easy as the impeller does? Anybody else have this problem?

Shouldn,t have to press it on or heat to remove it when you get it off (if no galling from this "install") check th keyway broach and key real carefully as well mic both pieces (shaft OD and "Indy" ID, somethings not right IMO Tom

with out the key installed, it should turn free, and also should slide freely on and off with the key installed.

Finally got it off. I can see some galling infront of the keyway. I took a measurement of the inducer part of the shaft and it came out to 1.3752. I then took a measurement infront of the keyway on the inducder section of the shaft and it came out 1.3744. These 2 measure ments were taken 90* of eachother.

Should just slide on and off. Clean up the shaft for any problems, clean up the id of the inducer. Take a little bit of emory paper if needed. Check key for any rust if it is not stainless, Should be stainless if is not.

update

ok, looks like it's just the keyway on the inducer. I spent a few minutes hitting the keyway edges right at the entry way with some 320 and it's sliding on about half way and will spin on the shaft. I think if i get in there and debur the rest of the keyway edge it will slide on nicly.

Rich S. Not sure, Family pitched in 2 years ago for christmas and got this DPS inducer race preped from MPD.

When you installed the inducer, did you notice a big difference? I am thinking about getting one from JBP sometime early next season. Gonna see how my energizer kit works out first.

Only been out once with the inducer in the boat so cant really say. Havnt gotten alot of time to test launching. You'll need to have your shaft machined to accept the inducer, it's not somthing you just slide onto a stock shaft.

use anti sieze when re-installing, will minimise any future galling, and should just slide off, when the time comes.

I tried this with my impeller on my jacuzzi.. Jacuzzi is a wedge fit, so once the water washed out the anti-seize the impeller loosened up and caused a horrid sound. Had to pull it and reinstall it dry. It may be different with an inducer if it isn't wedge fit. Just something to think about.

Yep, i anti-seized it. I've learned to anti-seize just about everything on the pump :)

Good job buddy :) You will thank yourself in the future for doing that :)



Kinda funny how you open the jar and end up with that schit all over the place.

prefer to use feather keys, keys that are rounded on the ends. helps to eliminate the peeling of the key ways and locking the inducers and or impellers onto the shaft. when cutting the inducer keyways i perfer to cut the key and the way with rounded ends so that the keyway "fits" into the slot and wont slide or cut the keyway on the inpeller. takes a little longer but seems to eliminate another possible snafu. jm.02
