Its been a little while since I have been on here. Seems ever since the last set of changes to the forum it has been sloooooooow. Anyway.

I am having a couple problems with my boat. For starters, its not fast. Is it possible that there is too much leakage between the droop snoot and the steering knuckle? Would this hurt thrust or not? It is defiantly leaking, pretty bad. I think there is some wear in the droop where the hard plastic o-ring seals to the droop. Should I replace the droop snoot or buy a straight snoot?

Boat is a 18 foot mako, bottom was set up by myself and I added a rounded keel. Dominator pump is set back, shoe is about even with keel and it has a ride plate. I am spinning a stainless aa impeller around 6000 rpms at 86-87 on my gps. The engine is a sbc blown and intercooled on e-85. Dart block, blah blah blah. On the dyno making 13 lbs of boost (mild tune) we made over 800 lb feet of torque from 4000-5000 rpms, and the torque really did not drop off that much. It made just over 800 HP at 6400 rpms.

If the play/slop is still there with a 'new' o-ring installed what I do is build up the socket end of the droop with Sea Going Poxy Putty. A few thin skim coats with a flexible small applicator. Then I sand it and use some graphite powder to show the high/low spots. Of course this is with the diverted and o-ring installed >manually move the nozzle from left to right, remove the nozzle and the graphite will show the high/low areas. This makes for a nice snug fit and if not always used in sandy areas will last a few years before it needs to be refilled.
